Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Kafka Administrator with strong experience managing and supporting enterprise-scale Apache Kafka and Confluent Platform environments. 
The ideal candidate will own and evolve an on-premises event-streaming platform, with a primary focus on Confluent Platform, reliability, performance, automation, monitoring, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy, configure, and operate highly available Kafka clusters across on-premises and cloud environments.
Manage Kafka topics, partitions, quotas, retention policies, replication, and consumer groups.
Perform Kafka upgrades, patches, migrations, cluster rebuilds, and hardware refresh activities.
Administer Confluent Platform and related components, including:
Kafka Connect
Schema Registry
MirrorMaker / Confluent Replicator
REST Proxy
Support and troubleshoot Kafka Streams and ksqlDB environments as needed.
Perform Kafka performance tuning, throughput testing, benchmarking, and capacity planning.
Optimize producers and consumers, including batching, compression, acknowledgments, ISR, and controller health.
Develop partitioning strategies and right-size Kafka clusters based on workload and capacity requirements.
Implement automation for provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.
Monitor Kafka environments using Datadog, Grafana, JMX Exporters, and centralized log aggregation tools.
Required Skills
5+ years in systems/platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps; 4+ years operating Kafka in production at scale.
Deep knowledge of Kafka internals: partitions, replication, retention/compaction, rebalance strategies.
Hands-on with Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, MirrorMaker/Confluent Replicator.
Strong Linux fundamentals; networking (TCP, DNS, load balancing), and performance analysis.
Proficiency in automation/scripting.
Monitoring/observability: Data Dog, Grafana, JMX exporters, and log aggregation.
Experience with DR, multi-region design, and incident management.
Proven ability to produce clear, comprehensive documentation
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Apache Kafka and AWS MSK operations and integration.
Experience executing hardware refreshes mor major cluster rebuilds/migrations with minimal downtime.
