Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Transmission Line Principal Engineer to lead the design and execution of High Voltage Transmission Line projects supporting Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and stand-alone transmission infrastructure projects. The role is responsible for managing transmission line engineering activities from conceptual development through construction and commissioning.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Transmission Line Design, Power Delivery Systems, Renewable Energy Infrastructure, Engineering Design Management, Transmission Routing & Permitting, Construction Support, and Project Coordination.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the design and engineering execution of transmission generation tie lines and utility-scale transmission projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, project managers, development teams, supply chain, and construction stakeholders.
  • Support project development activities including scope definition, conceptual engineering, competitive transmission proposals, and greenfield projects.
  • Develop scopes of work, evaluate bids, and manage engineering consulting resources and external vendors.
  • Coordinate transmission routing activities, permitting requirements, geotechnical investigations, lidar surveys, and engineering data collection.
  • Oversee engineering deliverables including Issued for Bid (IFB), Issued for Procurement (IFP), Issued for Construction (IFC), and As-Built packages.
  • Ensure engineering compliance, technical quality, reliability, safety standards, and project execution objectives are achieved.
  • Support project risk mitigation, cost estimating, schedule management, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide technical leadership and value engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams supporting utility-scale renewable energy and power delivery projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 7+ years of direct experience in High Voltage Transmission Line Engineering and Construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of Transmission Line Design Principles, One-Line Diagrams, Three-Line Diagrams, General Arrangement Drawings, and Plan & Profile Drawings.
  • Experience managing engineering consultants, technical reviews, and project coordination activities.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to support engineering compliance, permitting, and technical oversight activities.
  • Willingness to travel within North America.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale Solar, Wind, and BESS infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as PLSCADD, AutoCAD, Primavera P6, ETAP, EDISON, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with engineering procurement, construction support, and renewable interconnection projects.

Experience

  • 11 15 years of experience leading transmission engineering teams and managing major energy infrastructure projects.
  • Hands-on experience with transmission line engineering, routing, permitting, design management, and construction coordination.
  • Experience supporting utility, EPC, renewable energy, and power delivery projects.
  • Proven ability to bridge conceptual engineering and field execution while ensuring technical excellence and compliance.
  • Strong background in stakeholder management, project execution, engineering oversight, and process improvement.
