Client is looking for someone who has built the server from scratch.
A new server will come and that needs to be fit in the rack and build from the scratch at large scale. A system engineer who has worked in data center in setting up the servers will also work for this role.
Purpose: Establish a dedicated team to manage the lifecycle of x86 compute infrastructure supporting distributed systems.
Key Deliverables:
Oversee installation and configuration of new hardware platforms, including Oracle DBxRail and Splunk servers.
Manage firmware updates, BIOS patches, and hardware health checks to prevent vulnerabilities and performance degradation.
Provide centralized ownership for compute infrastructure, eliminating gaps caused by business units managing their own servers.
Ensure compliance with lifecycle standards and security requirements across all compute assets.
Collaborate with engineering teams to support capacity planning and hardware refresh initiatives.
Skills: Strong knowledge of Dell and other enterprise x86 platforms, VMware integration, hardware diagnostics, lifecycle management tools, and automation using Ansible and scripting.
Business Impact: Historically, compute servers have been managed by individual business units, leading to inconsistent lifecycle management and missed firmware updates. This creates operational risk and potential security exposure. A dedicated team ensures proper installation, proactive maintenance, and standardized lifecycle processes, reducing risk and improving reliability for critical platforms like Splunk and Oracle DBxRail.
