We are looking for a skilled Network Operations Center (NOC) / Staging Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the staging, configuration, testing, deployment support, and lifecycle management of network infrastructure solutions. This role prepares customer network equipment for implementation by configuring routers, switches, wireless LAN (WLAN) devices, and firewalls from various manufacturers using approved standards and templates. The technician also coordinates equipment logistics, supports customer change control processes, and provides technical assistance during scheduled maintenance windows for new installations, upgrades, and equipment replacements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Network Staging and Configuration
- Configure and stage network devices, including routers, switches, wireless access points, controllers, and firewalls, using agency-approved templates and standards.
- Perform equipment validation, software upgrades, firmware updates, and configuration testing prior to deployment.
- Verify device functionality, connectivity, and compliance with customer and organizational requirements.
- Maintain accurate configuration records and asset documentation.
- Label, inventory, and prepare equipment for deployment.
Logistics and Deployment Support
- Coordinate packaging, shipping, and tracking of network equipment to customer locations.
- Ensure all equipment and associated documentation are complete and accurate prior to shipment.
- Work closely with project teams to support implementation schedules and deployment timelines.
Customer Coordination and Change Management
- Coordinate with customers, vendors, and internal teams to schedule installation, migration, and maintenance activities.
- Participate in change control processes, including change request documentation, approvals, and implementation planning.
- Communicate maintenance window schedules, deployment status, and implementation readiness to stakeholders.
NOC and Operational Support
- Provide remote technical support during maintenance windows for network device installations, upgrades, and replacements.
- Monitor installation activities and assist field technicians with troubleshooting and configuration validation.
- Escalate complex issues to engineering or senior technical staff as necessary.
- Support incident response and service restoration efforts when required.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate staging, deployment, and configuration documentation.
- Update network inventories, asset management systems, and ticketing platforms.
- Follow established operational procedures, security standards, and quality control processes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Networking, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience configuring and supporting network equipment such as routers, switches, wireless devices, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with networking concepts including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, wireless networking, and network security.
- Experience using ticketing systems and change management processes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in network operations, network deployment, staging, or technical support.
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or similar networking platforms.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Aruba ACMA, Fortinet NSE, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting customer maintenance windows and after-hours network implementations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of LAN, WAN, WLAN, and firewall technologies.
- Ability to interpret network diagrams and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and network management tools.
- Strong customer service orientation and professionalism.
Work Environment
- Primarily office and NOC-based environment with occasional warehouse/staging activities.
- May require lifting and transporting network equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Participation in after-hours maintenance windows, on-call support, and 100% travel is required.
