As part of the Digital Engineering Chief Engineering Team, the Digital Engineering Chief Architect directs the technical vision, strategy, and implementation of digital engineering solutions. Reporting to senior program leadership, this role establishes and governs the digital engineering architecture, ensures alignment with overall system objectives, and drives the integration of model based, data centric, and automation capabilities across the product life cycle. The position demands deep expertise in aerospace systems engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), software architecture, and a proven record of leading cross functional teams in a high complexity defense environment.
This role emphasizes cross-organization collaboration and solution architecture. The Chief Architect interfaces with program teams, Cross-BA teams, customers, and executive leadership to define and deliver digital architecture solutions that support the 1LMX transformation.
Job Description
The Digital Engineering Chief Architect provides strategic leadership for the Enterprise Architecture Product Team while shaping and governing a unified digital engineering framework that drives the program s technical excellence and cost effective delivery. In this role, the Chief Architect defines the end to end architecture, establishes rigorous standards, and partners with cross functional teams to embed model based design, advanced analytics, and automation throughout the product life cycle, ensuring compliance, innovation, and measurable performance benefits.
Responsibilities
Leadership and oversight of Enterprise Architecture Product Team
Define, develop, and maintain the end to end digital engineering architecture, ensuring traceability to program requirements and performance goals.
Establish and enforce architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices (e.g., MBSE, SysML) for digital engineering across all subsystems.
Lead architecture review boards (ARBs) and technical interchange meetings, providing authoritative decisions on digital engineering trade offs and solutions.
Collaborate with system, hardware, software, and mission teams to embed model based design, simulation, and autonomous analysis capabilities early in the development process.

Basic Qualifications:
-Education: Bachelor s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
-Experience: Minimum 12 years of systems engineering or digital engineering experience on large scale aerospace or defense programs, with at least 5 years in a lead/architect role.
-Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of MBSE, digital twins, model based development, and related analysis methods (e.g., simulation, verification, validation).
-Advanced knowledge of Systems Architecture techniques, including understanding all related standards that address enterprise-level architectures.
-Tools Proficiency: Skilled in SysML, Dassault/Cameo, IBM JAZZ/Rhapsody
-Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams, conduct technical reviews, and influence senior stakeholders.
-EVM/CAM experience
-Agile SAFe experience
-Risk Management experience
-Clearance: Active Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).
Desired Skills:
-Master s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.
-Experience with Lockheed Martin internal digital engineering processes and tools (e.g., DOORS, PTC Integrity, IBM Rational).
-Familiarity with AI/ML based analytics, autonomous decision frameworks, and advanced simulation environments.
-Prior experience on the 1LMX program or other advanced air vehicle platforms.
-Certified or Qualified Architects preferred
-Certifications such as INCOSE CSEP/ASEP, TOGAF, or PMP.
-Proven record of publishing technical papers or patents in digital engineering, MBSE, or related domains.
-Experience communicating program challenges/status to stakeholders and upper management and building relationships
-Experience working with government customers (e.g., DoD, NASA) on digital engineer compliance and certification requirements.
-Certified LM CAM
