Systems Field Engineer

Overview

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking a Systems Field Engineer in Los Angeles, CA to join our team.

This role will focus on the rail systems including Overhead Contact System, Traction Power, Train Control, and Communication Systems.

The pay range for this position is $111,000.00 - $143,000.00 annually. The pay range for this position is for the project assignment at the Foothill Gold Line Project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the Project Manager in planning, executing, and closing out transit systems projects.
• Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Serve as a key day-to-day contact for Clients, consultants, and project partners.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, correspondence, project logs, and construction documentation.
• Conduct field walks to monitor progress, quality, safety, and compliance with contract requirements.
• Identify and resolve field coordination, constructability, technical, and interface issues.
• Assist with project schedules, look-ahead plans, progress tracking, and schedule recovery.
• Monitor project costs, labor productivity, material costs, subcontractor performance, and forecasts.
• Support estimating, change orders, scope reviews, and value engineering opportunities.
• Provide coordination and direction to Field Engineers and subcontractors.
• Promote compliance with OSHA requirements, project specifications, company policies, and quality standards.
• Identify project risks and assist with developing mitigation and resolution strategies.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 2-5 years of experience as a Field Engineer, Project Engineer, or similar role on transit or rail projects.
• Understanding of construction project management controls.
• Proficiency with scheduling tools, PDF editing software, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Valid U.S. Driver's License in good standing.
• Ability to travel for project needs, corporate events, and training.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
• Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

• Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
• Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
• Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
• Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
• Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
• Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
