Summary

Job Summary:

We are looking for additional technicians to join a networking team supporting Fiber Infrastructure Management (FIM) activities on large-scale data center projects. Openings are available for both entry-level and mid-level technicians.
This role ensures accurate tracking, validation, and documentation of fiber optic infrastructure and network connectivity using internal systems and tools. The FIM Technician plays a critical role in supporting commissioning milestones, including progression readiness, by ensuring all fiber installations, patching activities, and asset data align with design intent and customer requirements.
This position is a hybrid of a network technician and data validation specialist-less installation-focused and more centered on accuracy, documentation, and system integrity.

General Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform FIM scanning of fiber jumpers, patching, and connectivity using approved tools and systems
  • Ensure all installed systems are accurately reflected within FIM databases prior to key project milestones
  • Validate that physical fiber installations match logical design documentation, including port maps and rack elevations
  • Identify, document, and escalate discrepancies between installed infrastructure and FIM records
  • Maintain high levels of data accuracy for all assets, connections, and location information
  • Support rack elevation validation and asset placement prior to equipment installation or relocation
  • Coordinate with Field Engineers, Project Leads, and commissioning teams to ensure FIM readiness
  • Assist with troubleshooting fiber connectivity, patching errors, and documentation gaps
  • Support testing and commissioning teams by ensuring FIM completion prior to validation activities
  • Participate in daily huddles and safety meetings, providing updates on progress and risks
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and site requirements

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required; technical or trade education preferred
  • 2-5+ years of experience in structured cabling, fiber optics, or data center environments
  • Basic understanding of fiber installation, patching, and testing practices
  • Ability to read and interpret port maps, rack elevations, cut sheets, and technical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and validation
  • Experience using handheld scanners, laptops, and field documentation systems
  • Basic networking knowledge and understanding of connectivity principles
  • Must meet driving requirements (if applicable)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on hyperscale data center projects
  • Familiarity with FIM tools such as elevation mapping systems, port mapping tools, and fiber tracking platforms
  • Experience with fiber testing (OTDR, loopback, certification)
  • Exposure to commissioning processes and milestone requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a construction or live data center environment
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials as required
  • Comfortable working on ladders and around rack systems
  • Ability to travel and support project sites as needed
