Description:
Scope of the Project:
The client employs a multi-tiered architecture in its core business systems. The business application tier utilizes Microfocus Visual COBOL running under IIS on MS Windows 2022 servers. This assignment will support development of new business functions and troubleshooting, modification, and enhancement of existing functions in this environment within the existing client application framework. Projects may include business logic supporting online systems, batch programming, data extraction, and reports involving all client business areas. This engineer will work closely and will be involved with both the UI tiers which are MS .NET applications (VB.NET, C#.NET) and the database tiers in both SQL and Oracle. Production troubleshooting support will be expected, so some level of production support experience is required. This contractor will be expected to work with minimal supervision, will be in direct contact with business area specialists, develop technical approaches and designs, code, test, and support these functions. Communication skills must be excellent.
Daily Duties / Responsibilities:
Analyze the client web service, and batch business applications.
Take the lead in analyzing and troubleshooting assigned system problems.
Propose solutions.
Code, test, promote, and interact with impacted users ensuring that solutions meet requirements.
Provide daily and weekly status to the development manager.
Required Skills (rank in order of Importance):
1) 8+ Years of Development with MICROFOCUS Visual COBOL in Windows Server 2019/2022, batch and under IIS.
2) 4+ Years Experience with Visual Studio 2019/2022 including the ability to use the debugger
3) 4+ Years of Application programming against RDBMS (Oracle, SQL).
4) Bachelor’s degree in IT, OR related discipline with 8 years of experience or minimum 10 years related experience without degree
Preferred Skills (rank in order of Importance):
1) Experience with MICROFOCUS COBOL Version 7 and higher
2) Ability to write complex queries using SQL for Oracle and MS SQL DB.
3) IIS Configuration/Setup
4) Skilled in C# and .NET
5) Microsoft Certification
6) Microfocus Certification
Required Education:
Prefer bachelor’s degree in information technology related discipline with 8 years of experience or minimum 10 years related experience.
Required Certifications:
Not required but MS technical certifications will be factored in the selection process.
Microfocus certifications are a significant advantage.
Notes:
Hybrid. The initial engagement will require fully onsite work with Client Engineers and Business Specialists in a real-time development and maintenance mode. This will be a hybrid role allowing the candidate the opportunity for partial remote work up to one day a week unless project needs dictate otherwise.
