VMware HCX Migration Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on VMware HCX Migration Engineer to support enterprise-wide data center and hybrid cloud migration initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with VMware HCX, vSphere environments, workload migration strategies, and infrastructure transformation projects.

This role will be responsible for planning, executing, troubleshooting, and optimizing VMware HCX migrations across on-prem and cloud environments while ensuring minimal downtime and business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and manage VMware HCX migrations across hybrid cloud and data center environments
• Assess existing VMware infrastructure and determine optimal migration methodologies
• Perform workload migrations using:
  • HCX vMotion
  • Bulk Migration
  • Cold Migration
  • Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV)
• Deploy and configure VMware HCX components including:
  • HCX Manager
  • Interconnect
  • Network Extension
  • WAN Optimization
• Troubleshoot migration-related issues across compute, storage, and network layers
• Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, security, and application teams during migration activities
• Create migration runbooks, documentation, validation reports, and operational procedures
• Provide post-migration support, optimization, and issue resolution
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives

Required Skills

• 3–5 years of overall VMware infrastructure experience
• Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on VMware HCX experience
• Strong experience with:
  • VMware vSphere
  • vCenter
  • ESXi
• Experience with enterprise data center migration projects
• Strong understanding of virtualization and hybrid cloud environments
• Knowledge of networking concepts including:
  • VPN
  • IPsec
  • VLANs
  • NSX
  • Firewalls
• Experience troubleshooting VMware infrastructure issues
• Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• VMware certifications preferred:
  • VCP
  • VCAP
  • HCX Master Specialist
• Experience with automation tools such as:
  • PowerCLI
  • Ansible
  • Terraform
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure VMware Solution (AVS) or VMware Cloud
• Prior experience supporting enterprise-scale migration projects

Nice to Have

• Storage and replication technology experience
• Disaster Recovery / BCDR knowledge
• Experience in workload planning and infrastructure transformation initiatives
