Summary:Participates in preparing corporate budgets, financial statements, statistical reports, cost analyses, and other financial information. Reviews budget requests and recommends changes to achieve goals and objectives. This role also provides complex financial and business analytics to senior leadership in support of service lines, developing standardized, automated, and actionable reporting that tells the patient story and strengthens systemwide decision making. The analyst collaborates with operational, strategic, and financial partners to align service line definitions, financial data, and key performance metrics to improve consistency, visibility, and strategic insight across UNC Health.
Responsibilities:- Prepare and analyze financial reports, maintain communication with entity leaders, troubleshoot budget variances, and provide technical support for budgeting systems.
- Monitor and evaluate corporate budget activity, compile fiscal data, assess budget requests, and prepare recommendations, reports, and presentations for leadership and committees.
- Develop and distribute financial reporting, including dashboards, charts, and visualizations reflecting historical, current, and projected performance.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and accounting standards (GAAP, GASB, FASB), ensuring accurate and timely financial documentation.
- Perform complex financial and operational analyses using financial information systems; recommend efficiency improvements; and support or mentor junior team members.
- Define and standardize service line structures by partnering with operational and service line leaders to ensure alignment with the patient journey.
- Integrate service line definitions with key performance metrics-such as quality, market share, and financial indicators-to build complete, actionable dashboards.
- Develop consistent, automated reporting that conveys the patient story, enabling leaders to make informed, data driven decisions.
- Support the budget process by supplying analytical insights into financial drivers, trends, risks, and opportunities across service lines.
- Identify and investigate variances with service line leaders and evaluate downstream operational and financial impacts.
- Collaborate across UNC Health-including Cost, Strategy, and Financial Planning teams-to strengthen cost data quality, align operational definitions, and ensure strategic plans and pro formas reflect expectations.
Other InformationEducation Requirements: Master's degree or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements: If a Master's degree: two (2) years of experience in financial planning or analysis.
If a Bachelor's degree: Six (6) years of experience in financial planning or analysis.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: Research, retrieve and organize data to prepare reports and financial documentation, analyze and audit data.
