Summary

The Speech and Vision Accessibility team helps create assistive technologies for iOS and iPadOS that help people who are blind, have low vision, or need spoken output to use their device. Our products include VoiceOver, Zoom, Magnifier, Speak Screen, and Live Recognition.

At Apple we believe that technology is most powerful when it empowers everyone. The Speech and Vision Accessibility team is hiring a software engineer to help us build assistive technologies that millions of iPhone and iPad users rely on every day. There's a lot of variety in the engineering - from the UI our users interact with, to real-time audio and speech synthesis, to the system-level infrastructure that ties it all together.\n\nYou might pick up a new VoiceOver capability and see it through from research and design to its first adoption. That could mean designing a new interaction model, working on the audio pipeline that delivers spoken output, or coordinating state across system processes - then partnering with the first-party app teams who'll use it.\n\nMany of the problems we work on span the whole system. You'll trace an issue from a user-visible behavior in one of our products, down through system frameworks and services, and into a specific app - then decide where the fix really belongs.\n

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent\n3+ years of relevant software engineering experience\nProficiency in Swift and Objective-C\nExperience building iOS apps with UIKit (and ideally SwiftUI)\nStrong debugging skills using Xcode and lldb\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience adopting iOS accessibility APIs in apps you've built\nExperience with assistive technologies - as a user, developer, or researcher\nExperience designing public framework APIs that ship to a wide developer audience\nPerformance profiling and optimization experience on iOS\nExperience debugging across multiple frameworks or processes\nAptitude for independently learning new technologies\nPassion for quality and attention to detail
