Infrastructure & Platform Engineer

Position Overview

• Our client is seeking two experienced contract engineers to support an on-prem platform initiative.
• These individuals will augment the existing engineering team responsible for delivering, validating, maintaining, and automating the deployment of infrastructure and platform services within highly secure, disconnected customer environments.
• Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with VMware-based infrastructure, Linux administration, cloud management platforms, infrastructure automation, Kubernetes, and deployment into air-gapped environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere/ESXi environments.
• Support platform packaging, delivery, installation, and lifecycle management.
• Develop and maintain Terraform-based infrastructure automation.
• Automate provisioning workflows through Morpheus or equivalent cloud management platforms.
• Support Git-based CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform delivery.
• Design and support software delivery into disconnected or highly restricted environments.
• Manage certificate lifecycles, PKI integrations, and offline dependency management.
• Support compliance and security requirements including STIG and FIPS.
• Support Linux infrastructure and Kubernetes platform services.
• Troubleshoot networking, storage, and virtualization-related issues.

Required Skills

• VMware vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, HA, DRS, cluster and datastore management
• Terraform and Infrastructure as Code methodologies
• Advanced Linux systems administration and shell scripting
• Kubernetes administration, Helm, container lifecycle management
• Experience with a cloud management platform (HPE Morpheus preferred, VMware Aria/vRealize, or CloudBolt)

Preferred Skills

• Air-gapped/offline package management and private registries
• Golden image creation, OVF/OVA, Packer, Cloud-init, Sysprep
• VLAN, DNS/DHCP/NTP, NFS, iSCSI, vSAN
• STIG/FIPS compliance and security hardening
• Helm/RPM/DEB packaging and repository administration
• Validation tools such as Goss, pytest, or Ansible

Experience

• 5+ years of infrastructure or platform engineering experience.
• Experience with enterprise private cloud/on-prem platforms and regulated or security-sensitive environments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently.
