Mainframe Developer

Role: IBM Mainframe Z/OS, VSE

Duration: 12 Months Contract.

Location: Onsite - Dallas,TX

This is for a US-based Mainframe Technical Lead supporting a Unisys-led modernization program for Globe Life. The most important requirement is direct experience with VSE-to-z/OS migration. This is a niche profile, and that specific background is the priority.

The resource should be able to support the following:

• Strong IBM mainframe background with VSE and z/OS experience
• Experience with legacy application modernization and migration
• Familiarity with Easytrieve, JCL, legacy COBOL, RPG, and assembler
• Ability to act as the technical liaison between the client, Unisys, and the delivery partner
• Experience providing status updates, coordinating technical discussions, and helping manage migration progress

A few additional details:

• This is not a cloud or distributed replatforming effort
• The migration is from VSE 6.2 to z/OS 3.2
• Infrastructure is in the client data center
• Access would be through the client’s Citrix VDI environment
• The role is US-based and client-facing, with some travel expected to the Dallas/McKinney area

They are looking for the following:

• A Dell delivery resource or partner who can provide a senior US-based engineer to help migrate applications off a legacy mainframe to x86/open systems
• Own the dev/testing/integration workstream (application-level migration)
• DFW-based local resource for 12 months
• Work alongside the Partner’s technical lead currently leading the effort (PSC in Australia) – not be a separate team

• Unisys is requested assistance with mainframe modernization, not related to ClearPath and not an IBM platform support request.
• This is a mainframe modernization / exit initiative, where the client is moving off their existing mainframe platform toward a distributed open systems environment (x86/server-based). The current workstream is focused specifically on application-level migration (dev, testing, and integration), not infrastructure or platform operations. An offshore partner (PSC based in Australia) is leading the effort, but the client is experiencing delays due to time zone gaps and has requested US-based support to accelerate delivery.
• Unisys is specifically looking for one senior, hands-on technical lead engineer with deep mainframe migration experience—this is not an architect, program, or coordination role. The resource would directly own the dev/testing/integration workstream and work embedded alongside the partner’s technical lead, not as a separate or parallel team. The need is immediate (ASAP), with a hard requirement for a DFW-based local resource. Duration is 12 months, multi-phase modernization effort.
