Position Overview:
The incumbent will be a seasoned Sr. Production Support Database Administrator possessing a minimum of 8 years’ comprehensive experience in administering various database systems including but not limited to SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 (both Mainframe and UDB variants), Informix, and multiple NoSQL and cloud-native databases (Cassandra, Netezza, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, CosmosDB). The candidate will be adept at maintaining these systems to ensure exceptional performance, reliability, and security within an enterprise setting, and must be competent in troubleshooting and driving database enhancements.
Core Duties:
- Round-the-clock support for diverse database platforms within hybrid environments (including Azure, Google Cloud Platform), incorporating regular on-call rosters and shift work.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of database systems across development, staging, and production settings.
- Design and administer comprehensive backup, disaster recovery plans, performance tuning, and data recovery solutions for various databases.
- Conduct systematic database audits to ensure optimal performance; adjusting configurations and query optimizations proactively.
- Maintain critical database security measures, access controls, and adherence to internal governance standards.
- Lead the execution of database updates, patches, and system migrations ensuring limited service interruptions.
- Liaise with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to facilitate smooth deployment processes and resolve database-related technical issues.
- Tackle incidents effectively, engaging in thorough root cause analysis and drafting comprehensive resolution documentation.
- Employ automation via scripts or database management tools to streamline recurrent tasks.
- Document all database-related procedures, settings, and support practices for team-wide reference and knowledge transfer.
Required Competencies and Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another relevant technical field.
- Minimum of 8 years of direct experience in database administration of SQL Server and/or Oracle.
- Additional 8 years of experience managing databases such as Mainframe DB2, DB2 UDB, MongoDB, Netezza, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, or CosmosDB.
- Expert command of SQL and proven ability in resolving complex database issues.
- Familiarity with scripting for task automation and performance enhancements (examples: PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL, shell scripting).
- Profound understanding of disaster recovery, high availability configurations, and database performance improvement strategies.
- Proficiency with database monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Nagios) and automation technologies (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
- In-depth appreciation of database security frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to progress database patches, migrations, and upgradations.
- Proven multitasking capabilities within dynamic operation settings.
- Experience managing database audits as well as software licensing.
- Data warehousing database administration expertise.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with strong emphasis on effective documentation.
Preferred Credentials:
- Recognized industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure certifications, Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional).
- Practical knowledge of cloud database solutions (Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Data warehousing database management skills.
- Proficiency in automation tools (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Shell scripting).
