Job Title: Workday Tenant-to-Tenant Migration Project Manager
Location: Preferred in Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL; Remote considered as second preference
Role Type: Full-Time / Contract
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Workday Tenant-to-Tenant Migration Project Manager to lead the execution of a large-scale Workday tenant migration and separation as part of a corporate IT carve-out and divestiture. This individual will serve as the primary point of accountability between enterprise leadership, the System Integrator (SI), Workday, key functional stakeholders (HR, Payroll, Finance), and the Separation PMO.
The role oversees end-to-end delivery from tenant assessment, architecture, and configuration extraction through data migration, testing, cutover, and post-go-live hypercare, ensuring strict alignment with legal separation timelines, Transition Service Agreement (TSA) exit dates, and enterprise governance.
Key Responsibilities
Program Governance & Leadership
- Lead the end-to-end Workday migration lifecycle across four core phases: Assess & Plan, Design & Build, Migrate & Validate, and Cutover & Hypercare.
- Establish and run project governance frameworks, including steering committees, executive status reporting, RAID logs, Change Control Boards, and architecture reviews.
- Manage integrated cross-workstream project schedules, tracking milestone achievements against critical TSA deadlines and legal carve-out dates.
- Drive formal stage-gate governance and approvals for tenant architecture signoff, prototype builds, mock cutovers, UAT completion, production cutover readiness, and hypercare exit.
System Integrator & Vendor Management
- Serve as the day-to-day counterpart to the implementation partner/System Integrator, holding them accountable for Statements of Work (SOW), deliverables, quality standards, and timelines.
- Enforce vendor delivery milestones, defect remediation SLAs, and resource allocations.
- Manage scope changes, technical escalations, and dependencies across external partners, internal IT, and business workstreams.
Workday Functional & Technical Workstream Delivery
- Oversee migration and tenant configuration across Workday functional domains (HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Time & Absence, Talent, and Financial Management / FDM, where applicable).
- Drive tenant configuration extraction, replication, and migration strategies (leveraging Workday Object Transporter/OX, iLoad, or specialized tenant cloning/migration tooling).
- Lead tenant security re-architecture, including role-based security groups, user-based security groups, domain security policies, business process security, and integration system users (ISUs).
- Supervise historical data extraction, data cleansing, transformation, and load validation into new tenant environments across all worker cohorts.
Integrations & Downstream Ecosystem
- Lead the remediation, repointing, and testing of inbound/outbound integrations (EIBs, Core Connectors, Workday Studio, and custom APIs).
- Coordinate endpoint reconfiguration, authentication updates (OAuth/SAML/SSO), credential provisioning, and downstream payroll/benefits third-party vendor interfaces.
- Ensure end-to-end integration validation across all operational data pipelines prior to cutover.
Testing, Cutover & Hypercare Execution
- Own the comprehensive testing strategy, managing SIT, Unit Testing, End-to-End Testing, UAT, and Payroll Parallel runs.
- Plan and execute multiple Mock Data Conversions and Mock Cutovers to validate timing, technical runbooks, and fall-back plans.
- Direct the go/no-go readiness reviews, cutover weekend execution, and the hypercare stabilization phase to achieve zero Sev-1/Sev-2 operational defects at project signoff.
Change Management & TSA Exit
- Collaborate with Organizational Change Management (OCM) to support stakeholder impact analyses, role-mapping, training delivery, and user readiness.
- Align closely with the Separation PMO to track Day-1 separation milestones and clear all dependency gates required for clean TSA exit.
Required Qualifications
- 8 to 12+ years of IT project/program management experience leading large-scale enterprise application implementations.
- Direct, hands-on experience managing at least one large-scale Workday Implementation or migration, tenant split, clone, or upgrades.
- Proven track record leading Workday migrations within corporate divestitures, carve-outs, M&A, or TSA-driven separation programs.
- Deep functional and technical familiarity with Workday architecture, Workday security models, EIBs, Workday Studio, tenant management (OX), and payroll parallel testing.
- Demonstrated experience managing major System Integrators (e.g., Infosys, Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, Alight) and holding vendors accountable to SOW deliverables.
- Strong executive communication, structured risk/issue management, and cross-functional leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing Workday environments supporting 10,000+ global employees.
- Workday certifications (e.g., Workday Project Manager, Workday HCM Core, Workday Integration/Security) or PM credentials (PMP, PgMP).
- Direct experience leading global payroll parallel testing and complex vendor interface migrations.
- Location: Based locally in Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL (open to hybrid schedules).
Success Metrics
- Delivery of a fully independent, operational Workday tenant on or before the committed legal separation deadline.
- Successful completion of payroll parallel runs with 100% variance resolution and signoff.
- Complete migration and validation of all core business processes, historical worker data, and downstream integrations.
- Zero Sev-1 / Sev-2 operational defects remaining at hypercare exit.
- Formal signoff on all TSA transition gates and audit compliance criteria.
