Are you an engineer who thrives in a manufacturing environment and is passionate about process safety? Mitsubishi Chemical Group is seeking a Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer to join our team in La Porte, Texas.

In this role, you'll play a critical part in protecting our people, facilities, and communities by developing, implementing, and continuously improving our Process Safety Management (PSM) program. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and EHS teams, you'll help ensure compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management standard (29 CFR 1910.119) while driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

As a PSM Engineer, you will:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems in compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management standard (29 CFR 1910.119).
  • Support all 14 elements of Process Safety Management, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Mechanical Integrity, Incident Investigation, Operating Procedures, Compliance Audits, Training, and Emergency Response.
  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), risk assessments, and gap analyses to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate and support incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to strengthen process safety performance across the site.
  • Develop and deliver PSM-related training for employees and contractors.
  • Monitor process safety metrics and prepare reports for site leadership.
  • Support regional initiatives to standardize PSM programs and share best practices across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Provide technical support on plant issues by collaborating with engineering teams and spending time in the field to understand operational challenges.

What You Bring

We're looking for an engineer who enjoys being visible in the plant, building strong relationships with operations teams, and finding practical solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's Degree, minimum in a science or technical field, ideally Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Alternatively, B.S. or B.A. in unrelated field and 3-5 years direct experience managing and maintaining PSM systems including mechanical integrity management systems
  • Detailed understanding of 29 CFR 1910.119 - OSHA Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals
  • Minimum 2 years developing, maintaining or operating PSM compliance systems
  • Experience using and configuring Process Hazard Analysis management software to document PHAs and what-if studies.
  • Experience using MS Office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to network with other MCC PSM system managers / coordinators to benchmark SRL's and SPR's compliance systems against industry standards to generate and implement improvements.
  • Working understanding of each site's chemical process unit operations and typical damage mechanisms associated with them.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training, as necessary to cover all aspects of the PSM standard.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills to communicate with business and technical.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified PHA Leader
  • Experience with PHA management software
  • Chemical, petrochemical, polymer, refining, or specialty chemical manufacturing experience
  • Experience facilitating root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions

The salary range for this position is $130,000-$140,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may also be subject to geographic adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the posted location.
