The Costco Digital Services Division is inviting students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university to participate in a twelve -week paid internship program during 2026. Interns will work within specific areas in Costco's Information Systems Division. Interns will attend presentations given by various members of Executive Management from IT and other areas of the Company. Interns will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Housing is not provided. The program runs mid June to early September and is located in Issaquah, WA. No out of state work allowed. All interns will adhere to the CDS hybrid work model of three days onsite and two days remote.

Software Engineers perform development work across the technology stack (both front-end/back-end expertise). They are versatile in how they can add value, demonstrating the ability to manage the completion of projects that involve databases, backend services, or the development of front end applications. They should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of emerging technologies to support the development of new solutions. Software Engineers understand the full technology stack and underlying applications, services, and databases in order to ensure optimal performance.

The Digital Analytics & Search Engine Optimization (SEO) team is responsible for increasing sales on costco.com/ca through analytics, the utilization of search engine optimization, product recommendations, A/B testing, on-site search and personalization. The individual in this role will design, build, enhance, and implement solutions in a fast-paced environment working closely with an experienced and highly motivated team.

NOTE: While participating in the IT Internship program, an individual will be classified as an hourly temporary employee for the duration of the program. During the program, the individual may be asked to undergo the normal interview process for a level 1 position. If the individual is offered a position, they will be converted to the employment status matching open job they were selected for. If they are not selected for a regular position, the internship position will be complete in a maximum of twelve weeks.

• Supports release planning activities in conjunction with Product Owners and teams.
• Supports the Product Owner with the identification and definition of enablers / work items to support the architectural runway of a given product/application.
• Defines the non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, security, resiliency, etc.) which support the development of epics and user stories aligned to a value stream.
• Identifies technical dependencies across several product / application teams to support the implementation of new or enhanced functionality.
• Creates and executes unit tests which validate the code changes made to support the implementation of a user story.
• Uses test driven development (TDD) practices to assist with the detection/recognition of software defects early in the development process.
• Estimates, plans, and manages all implementation tasks and reports on development progress.
• Designs, builds, debugs, optimizes and implements solutions in approved tool sets and databases.
• Develops high quality, efficient and fault tolerant software.
• Supports, extends and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.

Required:

• Experience with Adobe Experience Platform & Adobe Target or aptitude to learn
• Proficient working knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git, SVN, etc.
• Familiarity with continuous integration.
• Understanding of the software development process.
• Knowledge of object-oriented concepts.
• Knowledge and experience working with databases.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate to both technical and Business audiences.
• Ability to execute against iteration plans and deliver assignments within scope, schedule, and budget.
• High integrity, accountability, and a positive attitude; willingness to do what it takes to make the team successful.
• Responsible, conscientious, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.
• Detail-oriented; possesses strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze potential future issues.
• Possess good organizational, time, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, and stay well organized.
• Currently maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college or university.

Recommended:

• Experience in:
  • Integrating an application with other applications using web services.
  • Working with UI frameworks/libraries, such as Angular and React.
  • Working knowledge of databases (DB2, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
• Programming experience with related technology such as XML, Java, various JavaScript frameworks, and SQL queries.
• Cloud Development/Computing (preferably Google Cloud Platform).
• Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay Range: $31.90/hr.
