Role Overview

The Engineering Manager is a hands on technical leader responsible for the day to day management of a software development team. This role partners closely with Product, Architecture, and other Engineering teams to execute technical, architectural, and product initiatives through active leadership and participation.

This position balances people management and technical leadership, including ownership of technical roadmaps and system design, as well as mentoring, performance development, and career guidance for engineers.

A successful candidate will lead the delivery of high impact outcomes with a focus on building modern delivery pipelines on a high availability platform. The Engineering Manager remains deeply involved in the product development lifecycle, contributing production quality code (up to 50% of the role), while driving continuous improvement through data driven, iterative development in an Agile environment.

Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Architecture teams to drive the end to end software development lifecycle, rapidly delivering scalable, high quality solutions to production.

Ensure engineering excellence by enforcing standards for robustness, resiliency, high availability, scalability, and modern CI/CD delivery pipelines.

Plan and execute releases, including stakeholder coordination and clear communication throughout the release process.

Mentor and develop engineers through regular coaching, feedback, and reinforcement of technical vision and best practices.

Establish technical roadmaps and resource plans across one or more teams.

Champion Agile best practices, modern frameworks, architectural standards, design patterns, and engineering processes across the organization.

Balance speed and quality by applying industry standard metrics such as Cycle Time, Lead Time to Change, and Deployment Frequency to identify bottlenecks and guide technical improvements.

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Identify risks and dependencies, holding teams accountable to high engineering and delivery standards.

Lead incident response activities, including on call participation, technical triage, and resolution of production issues.

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

3+ years of software development management experience.

Prior experience serving as a technical lead for teams delivering high quality software.

Hands on experience with container orchestration and deployment technologies.

Proven ability to mentor engineers and conduct thoughtful, constructive code reviews.

Strong knowledge of Agile development practices and experience leading teams in Agile environments.

Preferred Experience

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

Experience with AWS Step Functions or serverless orchestration patterns.

Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools.

Experience working with distributed or globally based development teams

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong engineering background with the ability to understand and evaluate architecture and implementation at the code level.

Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and the ability to evangelize and sustain them within teams.

Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and competing priorities.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non technical audiences.

Strategic mindset with the ability to make difficult decisions and drive them to execution.

Strong understanding of upstream and downstream technical and organizational impacts.

Willingness to challenge existing approaches and continuously improve processes and solutions.

Adaptability to change and the ability to lead teams through evolving priorities.

Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills, leading by example and fostering a shared sense of purpose.

Emotional maturity, professionalism, and a positive, solutions oriented outlook.

Strong analytical, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
