3.1 About the role

You will own the metadata layer of this engagement end to end: reverse-engineering how the legacy catalog currently feeds Collibra, rebuilding that feed from a new source, and then writing the target-state design and decommissioning roadmap the client will build from in 2027.

This is deliberately a combined architect and engineer role. You will be in a Collibra API payload in the morning and in front of the client s architecture review board in the afternoon. It is a senior individual contributor position, not a people-management one.

3.2 What you will do

1. Reconstruct the current metadata contract into Collibra mechanism, payload shape, frequency, volumes, error handling and reconciliation.
2. Build a metric register: every profiling attribute captured today, mapped to the Collibra asset type and attribute it lands in, and to the specific governance control that consumes it. Separate what is load-bearing from what is decorative.
3. Map the affected Collibra operating model asset types, domains, communities, relations and attributes.
4. Build the Collibra side of the prototype so that existing governance workflows continue to function against a new profiling source.
5. Assess Collibra s own profiling and Amazon S3 registration capability, including the AWS Glue dependency, and determine how much of the requirement it can carry.
6. Evaluate Collibra s Databricks Unity Catalog integration via Edge as a target-state component.
7. Author the target-state architecture and design document as a replicable pattern, not a one-off write-up.
8. Author the migration roadmap, wave plan and platform decommissioning plan, aligned to the 2027 renewal decision.
9. Agree acceptance criteria for functional equivalence with the client s governance team, and evidence them in the prototype comparison pack.
10. Facilitate discovery workshops with the client s data governance, architecture and engineering teams.

3.3 What you need

• 8+ years in data governance, metadata management or data architecture, with recent hands-on delivery not advisory-only.
• Deep hands-on Collibra: operating model and asset model design, Collibra Edge, the Catalog REST and Import APIs, and enough of the workflow engine to trace what a metadata change triggers downstream.
• Demonstrable experience migrating from one metadata or catalog platform to another. Informatica EDC or Axon, Alation, IBM Information Governance Catalog, Talend, Waterline, Microsoft Purview or a bespoke platform all count. The legacy vendor does not matter; the migration pattern does.
• Proven ability to reverse-engineer an undocumented integration obtain a live payload, infer the contract, reproduce it. You will be asked for a specific example.
• Fluency in data profiling concepts (null counts, cardinality, uniqueness, density, selectivity, pattern inference, lexical bounds) and, more importantly, what each is actually used for in a governance control.
• Sensitive-data classification: classifier design, taxonomy mapping, precision and recall trade-offs, human-in-the-loop review.
• Working SQL and Python enough to build and debug an integration.
• Writing clear enough that the design document survives handover to a different team a year later, and presence enough to defend it at an architecture or security review board.

3.4 Nice to have

• Exposure to Pentaho Data Catalog, Waterline Data, or Hitachi Vantara catalog products.
• Financial services or other heavily regulated delivery experience.
• Databricks Unity Catalog literacy enough to hold a design conversation without translation.
• Experience decommissioning a governance platform, including audit and evidence considerations.

3.5 This role is not

A Collibra administrator post configuration alone will not reconstruct the contract. Nor a delivery or program management role. Nor a purely advisory architect role: roughly half of this is hands-on.
