Job Description:
REMOTE Engineer Level 2, Database Administrator (DBA)
Position Summary

The Engineer II, Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for supporting and maintaining enterprise database environments that power business-critical applications and operational processes. This role partners closely with application development, infrastructure, and support teams to ensure database reliability, performance, security, and availability across both on-premises and cloud environments.

The DBA will support day-to-day database operations, assist with application releases, review and implement database changes, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to ongoing platform improvements. This position offers the opportunity to work across multiple systems and technologies while helping drive operational efficiency, stability, and proactive issue management.
Responsibilities
  • Implement approved DDL and DML changes across production and non-production environments.
  • Manage database deployment scripts through version control and support release and change management processes.
  • Review and approve application-driven database changes to ensure compliance with security, performance, operational, and recoverability standards.
  • Review SQL code for accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and safety.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of application data models, including key tables, relationships, and data flows, to support troubleshooting and change management activities.
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity and respond to alerts as needed.
  • Support application development teams in diagnosing and resolving database-related issues.
  • Assist with application release activities, database patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
  • Support backup, recovery, business continuity, and restore validation processes.
  • Manage database user access and permissions according to established security and compliance standards.
  • Support data protection initiatives, including the handling of sensitive information and data privacy requests.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation that includes occasional after-hours support.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proven ability to protect confidential and highly sensitive data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and PostgreSQL backup, recovery, monitoring, and performance management concepts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.
  • Must reside within the United States.
  • Ability to work within U.S.-based business hours.
  • 3+ years of experience administering databases in a production environment with strong experience in Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience supporting both on-premises and cloud-based database environments, or significant experience in one with demonstrated ability to learn the other.
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing, reviewing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex queries.
  • Experience supporting software development teams through troubleshooting, release coordination, and database change reviews.
  • Experience with database user management, role-based access controls, and least-privilege security practices.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools, alert management, and basic performance tuning.
  • Experience using version control platforms such as Git or Bitbucket to manage database changes.
  • Commitment to incorporating security best practices into daily responsibilities and technical decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud-managed database services, including backup, replication, high availability, and failover capabilities.
  • Experience developing and supporting PL/SQL and/or PL/pgSQL stored procedures and functions.
  • Experience with Oracle administration tools and technologies related to backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience working in Linux/Unix environments and using scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Understanding of data governance, data privacy, and security compliance standards.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale database environments and mission-critical applications.
