The Role

Schonfeld is seeking a highly qualified and talented technologist to join its Reference Data Technology team.

The Reference Data Management team at Schonfeld focuses on building and supporting centralized golden source of reference and master data. The key areas supported surround Securities, Financial Calendars and Investment Professional related data domains such as Portfolio's, Broker Accounts and Books. The team also supports a centralized framework used to standardize how the firm masters and distributes data.

These core sources of data support many aspects of the business ranging from Trade Execution, Accounting, Compliance, Treasury, Risk and Operations.

What you'll do

Principal Engineers at Schonfeld take on a wide range of responsibilities and challenges.
  • Architecture & Development: Design, build and support highly available and scalable systems providing golden sources of data to the organization that support critical business functions ensuring they are designed to support agentic workflows and LLM orchestration whilst driving new uses of generative practices to provide cost-efficient and high performing solutions.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with key stakeholders within the business and technology on a day-to-day basis to analyze data and technical problems, design and develop solutions that solve business challenges and advocate for best practices and promote successes of the team.
  • Enhance Tech Stack: Lead the improvement of our modern tech stack, building microservices deployed to the cloud (AWS) using K8s and increasing business benefit through the delivery of MCP servers and agentic solutions to increase the efficiency of delivery and business decision making. Drive architectural decisions and discussions with stakeholders and team members, gaining buy-in.
  • Contribute to Firmwide Frameworks: Ensure the code base is highly supportable, future-ready, and performant without latency. Lead in the development of re-usable components and AI solutions to solve real-world challenges and contribute to firmwide libraries.
  • Technical Leadership: Own end-to-end delivery of strategic, cross-functional projects and continuously improving reliability, security and performance.
  • Mentorship: Upskill team members on software engineering best practices, modern frameworks, cloud and AI technologies.

What you'll bring

What you need:
  • At minimum, seven years of experience in financial services/hedge funds.
  • At minimum, three years of experience supporting listed and OTC instruments typical in multi-strategy fund.
  • At minimum, seven years of OO development experience (Java highly preferred)
  • Expertise with design and architecture (stateful reactive microservices experience preferred)
  • Practical experience with using generative AI to increase efficiency in the delivery of technology solutions and in building MCP servers, agentic workflows and LLM orchestration.
  • Experience leading strategic technical initiatives from start to finish and able to discuss the pros and cons of chosen architectural elements.
  • Experience with relational and in-memory databases (Postgres / SingleStore preferred)
  • Experience with messaging systems (Kafka preferred)
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience mentoring software engineers
  • Strong ownership experience and a track record of delivering results

  • Experience and knowledge of:
    • Cloud services such as AWS
    • Containerization and orchestration tools such K8s
    • DevOps methodologies such as CI/CD and build automation
    • UI development using React
  • Experience of Reference and Master Data Management in a financial services organization.
  • Experience of in-house and/or vendor Security Masters.
  • An interest in or experience of finance markets, economics, or mathematics

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $250,000 and $300,000. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance bonus and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
