Senior Java Developer

Our client is a District of Columbia government technology agency leading a modernization initiative for a citizen-facing enterprise application. The project involves leveraging cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and mobile technologies to deliver a modern experience for customers and partners while strengthening system security and minimizing disruption to existing operations.

Role Description

The Senior Java Developer will design, develop, and test applications using Java technologies, supporting the full application lifecycle from development through QA to production. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Java and J2EE using the Spring Technologies framework, along with strong design and architectural skills across REST/RPC APIs and Agile methodologies. The developer will write clean, scalable code, refactor and debug existing systems, and support the broader technical ecosystem for the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure technologies remain updated with current, stable, and compliant architecture that meets enterprise standards
• Collaborate with internal teams to produce software design and architecture
• Develop, test, and deploy applications and systems
• Revise, update, refactor, and debug code; improve existing Java applications and systems
• Proactively monitor and report on the performance and utilization of assigned technologies
• Troubleshoot software and/or hardware issues and failures
• Manage problems, escalated tickets, and out-of-cycle requests from system/software owners
• Determine the best course of action to meet business needs and provide consultative expertise on system usage
• Proactively identify broader, more complex issues across multiple integrated technologies and communicate as appropriate
• Provide technical knowledge and support to agency personnel and stakeholders
• Coordinate activities of application developers as needed
• Identify best practices and standards for product use
• Deliver support and design for applications requiring integration with statewide systems
• Interact with executive-level business users and technical experts
• May function as a niche technical Subject Matter Expert (SME)
• Perform other related duties as assigned
