Summary

Company:
Oliver Wyman

Description:

We are seeking a highly capable aviation professional with 5-10 years of hands-on experience as a Flight Operations Technical Specialist SME or equivalent technical role. The ideal candidate has progressed beyond core required airline or commercial pilot duties into advanced functions such as flight standards management, regulatory compliance specialist, technical publications, FAA certification project management and brings strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

This role is designed for individuals who understand the broader flight operations aspects (dispatch, crew management, maintenance control, and flight training) and can bridge the gap between flight operations administrative functions and operational leadership-driving efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement. A key focus will be developing high-quality technical manuals while flexing into operational excellence, technical services, and consulting support as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical manuals, and flight operations documentation to ensure accuracy, usability, and regulatory compliance
  • Translate OEM data, engineering inputs, and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable instructions for frontline execution
  • Ensure all technical publications align with FAA regulations (Part 121/135/145) and internal quality standards
  • Apply strong critical thinking to identify gaps in documentation, processes, and execution-driving practical solutions that improve safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Flex across multiple functional areas based on business needs, including:
    • Operational Excellence: Support process improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, TOC), focusing on throughput, WIP control, and cycle time reduction
    • Safety: Provide regulatory compliance experience with 14 CFR part 5 or equivalent Safety Management System (SMS) programs
    • Technical Consulting: Participate in client-facing engagements, assessments, and transformation initiatives to improve airline operations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with maintenance, engineering, planning, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment and execution
  • Support quality assurance and compliance efforts, including audits, inspections, and root cause analysis
  • Contribute to the development of standardized processes, templates, and best practices across technical documentation and operations
  • Interface with internal stakeholders and external clients/partners to ensure expectations are aligned and deliverables are met

Qualifications:
  • FAA Pilot Licenses preferred (CFI, Commercial, ATP)
  • 5-10 years of aviation experience in a commercial environment (121, 135,141, 142)
  • Demonstrated progression into roles such as:
    • Technical Publications
    • Quality Assurance / Quality Control
  • Strong understanding of aircraft systems and regulatory requirements
  • Research and experience working within FAA Part 121, 135, or 142 environments
  • Proven ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and make data-driven decisions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface across all levels of the organization
  • Experience with Flight Operations systems (e.g., CAE, NavBlue, ETQ, etc.) preferred

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in project-based or client-facing environments
  • Project Management
  • Exposure to digital tools or data analytics platforms
  • Leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
  • Safety Risk Management and manual interface experience

What Success Looks Like:
  • High-quality, usable technical manuals that improve execution and reduce errors
  • Independent thinker that knows how to research and apply regulatory processes
  • Improved maintenance flow, reduced turnaround times, and better schedule adherence
  • Enhanced quality performance (e.g., improved first-pass yield, reduced rework)
  • Strong collaboration across teams and positive client/stakeholder feedback
  • Identification and execution of meaningful operational improvements

The applicable base salary range for this role is $110,000 - $150,000

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position will be eligible for performance-based incentives.
