Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Project Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of complex data center infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in data center design, build-out, and operational systems, including SAN/Storage, Server, and Network infrastructure.
The role requires proven experience managing large-scale projects from conception through commissioning and handoff, along with strong leadership, technical knowledge, and stakeholder management skills. Occasional weekend work may be required and will be adjusted through schedule shifting.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead planning, execution, and successful delivery of data center deployment projects, including greenfield developments and large-scale retrofits.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria with stakeholders.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
Technical Oversight
- Interpret Visio drawings and blueprints to guide infrastructure layout and design decisions.
- Oversee installation, configuration, and testing of network equipment, including switches, routers, and structured cabling systems.
- Manage rack-and-stack operations while optimizing layouts for airflow, accessibility, and scalability.
- Coordinate lab build-outs and ensure seamless integration with live production environments.
Infrastructure & Facilities Management
- Collaborate with facilities teams to ensure proper power provisioning and PDU balancing.
- Work with IT Facility Managers to ensure projects meet thermal management requirements for high-density environments.
- Ensure environmental controls and access/security systems are maintained during project deployment.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal teams, external vendors, and contractors.
- Communicate project status, risks, and issues effectively to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Manage vendor relationships and ensure compliance with SLAs and project timelines.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all work adheres to industry standards such as Uptime Institute, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and HIPAA, along with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct post-project reviews, document lessons learned, and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Maintain accurate runbooks and SOPs for operational readiness.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing greenfield data center builds, rack-and-stack projects, or large-scale infrastructure retrofits.
- Strong technical knowledge of data center design, including power distribution, cooling, and physical security.
- Proficiency with Visio or similar design tools for infrastructure planning.
- Familiarity with BMS (Building Management Systems) and DCIM platforms.
- Strong understanding of structured cabling standards, including TIA/EIA, fiber, and copper media.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, as well as hybrid data center models.
- Knowledge of capacity planning, scalability, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including facilities, IT, security, and external vendors.
- Strong vendor negotiation, contract management, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project management methodologies.
- Excellent documentation skills for drawings, runbooks, SOPs, and project reports.
Preferred Skills
- PMP, CAPM, or related project management certification.
- Technical certifications related to data center infrastructure or networking.
- Experience with compliance standards such as Uptime Institute Tier classifications, ISO standards, SOC 2, or HIPAA.
