Electrical Engineer Plant Engineering Brooksource | Cleveland, OH (Onsite)
Brooksource is supporting a large manufacturing organization in Cleveland with a critical plant modernization initiative. This Electrical Engineer will have a hands-on role upgrading and standardizing aging manufacturing equipment across multiple production areas.
This is not a greenfield design or R&D role. The focus is execution-driven and plant floor oriented, centered on upgrading legacy equipment, supporting installations, and commissioning modern automation systems in an active manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support plant modernization and capital upgrade projects across multiple manufacturing areas.
- Upgrade aging equipment (15+ years old) by implementing:
- New PLCs
- New VFDs / drives
- Updated networks
- Updated electrical prints
- Convert very old equipment (1980s vintage) with no existing PLCs or drives to modern PLC and VFD-based systems.
- Update and maintain electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Work from predefined parts, standards, and technologies selected by the organization.
- Obtain vendor quotes and support capital cost estimates and timelines.
- Assist with hands-on installation alongside electricians.
- Support startup, commissioning, conditioning, tuning, and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Perform extensive drive work including parameter changes, motor tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Partner closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safe, reliable startup and long-term performance.
Required Skills:
- AutoCAD Electrical
- Strong, hands-on experience required.
- Updating and maintaining electrical prints is a core responsibility.
- Rockwell PLC & HMI Experience
- Hardware-focused PLC experience.
- HMI experience required (Rockwell preferred; similar platforms acceptable).
- Experience supporting existing equipment not just new builds.
- VFD / Drive Experience
- Comfortable changing parameters, tuning motors, and interacting directly with drives on manufacturing equipment.
- Candidates with PLC experience but no real drive experience are not a fit.
Ideal Background:
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Acceptable backgrounds include:
- Industrial manufacturing
- Plant or facilities engineering
- Maintenance engineering with strong PLC exposure
- PLC experience does not need to be from the most recent role; meaningful experience within the last 5 7 years is acceptable.
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience.
- Ideal range: 3 5 years; 5+ years also acceptable.
- Looking for someone experienced but not necessarily at a senior or lead level.
