Job Description

  • We are seeking a highly skilled MQ Exit Developer with strong expertise in C programming to maintain and enhance custom IBM MQ exits that extend the enterprise messaging platform.
  • This role focuses on advanced IBM MQ capabilities, including Security Exits, API Exits, and Message Exits, supporting authentication, authorization, message transformation, and observability requirements across distributed and hybrid environments.
  • The ideal candidate will possess deep experience in low-level C development, a strong understanding of IBM MQ internals, and the ability to deliver thread-safe, high-performance solutions aligned with enterprise security and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. MQ Exit Development & Maintenance

Maintain and support existing IBM MQ Channel Exits, API Exits, and Message Exits using C.

Develop, enhance, and troubleshoot custom MQ exit implementations.

Ensure all MQ exits are thread-safe and optimized for high-performance, multi-threaded MQ environments.

Integrate MQ exit logic with external systems such as LDAP, REST APIs, and enterprise security services.

Perform code reviews and implement best practices for reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

  1. Operational Support & Modernization

Provide L3 production support for MQ exit-related issues and incidents.

Collaborate with platform, middleware, and application teams to:

Reduce dependency on custom exits by leveraging native IBM MQ features where appropriate.

Simplify, streamline, and modernize legacy exit implementations.

Support MQ platform upgrades and migration initiatives.

Analyze performance bottlenecks and recommend optimization strategies.

  1. Documentation & Governance

Maintain detailed technical design documents, operational runbooks, and support procedures.

Ensure adherence to coding standards, security guidelines, and enterprise governance requirements.

Manage the complete lifecycle of MQ exit code, including version control, deployment, testing, and rollback procedures.

Support audit, compliance, and change management activities.

Required Skills

  • Strong programming experience in C/C++.
  • Deep understanding of IBM MQ architecture and internals.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • MQ Channel Exits
  • MQ Security Exits
  • MQ API Exits
  • MQ Message Exits
  • Experience in multi-threaded application development and thread-safe coding practices.
  • Knowledge of enterprise authentication and authorization mechanisms.
  • Experience integrating with LDAP, REST APIs, and external services.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in Unix/Linux environments.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), source control, and deployment processes.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with IBM MQ administration and middleware platforms.
  • Knowledge of message security, encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Exposure to cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise messaging platforms.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation practices.

Experience Required

  • 8+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on IBM MQ development and customization experience.
  • Proven experience developing and supporting custom MQ exits in enterprise environments.
