RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in South Salt Lake City, UT that is seeking an exceptional Staff Software Engineer with deep backend expertise and a strong aptitude for technical leadership to help evolve a modern, cloud-native platform at the intersection of software, hardware, and intelligent automation.
Summary:
This is a high-impact, senior-level role for an engineer who combines hands-on development with architectural leadership-designing and delivering scalable, resilient systems that power customer-facing applications, internal platforms, and hardware-integrated services. You will play a key role in shaping technical direction, influencing best practices, and owning complex initiatives end to end.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Platform Architecture & Technical Leadership:
* Help drive the evolution of distributed, serverless platform architecture in AWS
* Partner with senior engineering leadership to influence technical direction and design decisions
* Lead architecture and design reviews across teams and domains
* Proactively identify and remediate technical debt and systemic gaps
* Promote engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices
* Contribute to platform intelligence initiatives, including automation, decisioning, and AI-enabled capabilities
Hands-On Backend Development:
* Design and build scalable backend systems, APIs, and services using TypeScript
* Develop cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, IoT services, Step Functions, and CDK
* Implement event-driven workflows and orchestration layers that bridge software, cloud, and connected devices
* Collaborate with frontend engineers supporting modern web applications
* Build internal APIs, service contracts, and developer-facing SDKs
Reliability, Security & Operations:
* Design systems with observability, reliability, and resiliency at their core
* Implement robust testing strategies and CI/CD pipelines
REQUIREMENTS:
* 8+ years of professional software development experience
* 3-4+ years in senior technical leadership roles (Staff, Principal, or Architect level)
* Expert-level backend development experience using TypeScript
* Strong hands-on experience building serverless, event-driven architectures on AWS
* Proven experience designing scalable APIs, distributed systems, and data models
* Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, Docker, and observability tooling
* Exposure to modern AI/ML systems and intelligent automation in production environments
* Strong understanding of security, compliance, and system reliability

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
