Data Architect – Retail/Inventory
Top Consulting is seeking an experienced Data Architect with retail industry expertise to design and implement scalable data architecture supporting our clients’ inventory, SKU, sales, merchandising, supply chain, and operational analytics. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of retail data domains and hands-on experience designing data models and platforms that manage high-volume SKU and inventory data.
Responsibilities
o Design and oversee enterprise data architecture supporting retail business functions, including inventory, SKUs, sales, products, merchandising, supply chain, and stores.
o Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for retail data domains.
o Define data structures and relationships for SKU, product, inventory, location, warehouse, store, sales, purchase order, and replenishment data.
o Design scalable data solutions capable of handling large volumes of SKU-level and transactional data.
o Establish standards for data integration, data modeling, data quality, metadata, and data governance.
o Partner with business stakeholders to understand retail data requirements and translate them into technical architecture.
o Design data pipelines and integration patterns across ERP, POS, inventory management, merchandising, warehouse, and other retail systems.
o Support inventory visibility, demand planning, forecasting, replenishment, and allocation analytics.
o Ensure consistent definitions and relationships across product and SKU hierarchies.
o Design solutions to improve inventory accuracy and provide a single source of truth for inventory and product data.
o Evaluate existing data architecture and recommend improvements to scalability, performance, reliability, and accessibility.
o Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, BI Developers, and business teams to implement architectural solutions.
o Develop and maintain data architecture documentation, standards, and best practices.
o Ensure data solutions meet security, privacy, governance, and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
o 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related discipline.
o Strong retail industry experience with an understanding of retail data and business processes.
o Hands-on experience designing data architectures involving SKUs, inventory, products, sales, stores, warehouses, and supply chain data.
o Strong experience with conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling.
o Advanced SQL and relational database experience.
o Experience designing data warehouses, data lakes, and/or modern cloud data platforms.
o Experience with data integration and ETL/ELT architecture.
o Strong understanding of master data concepts, particularly Product/SKU Master and Inventory Master data.
o Experience working with large, complex datasets and high-volume transactional data.
o Strong communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.
