Job Description:
Tester Senior

Location: McLean, VA or Plano, TX (Onsite)

Role Overview

An experienced contractor is sought to support an enterprise data modeling transformation initiative. The role involves performing an independent review of the current process and technology ecosystem for data modeling, executing structured manual testing of critical workflows, and developing a practical, phased plan to automate testing and quality gates. This position will partner with data modelers, data engineers, platform teams, and data governance stakeholders to improve the quality, consistency, and release readiness of data modeling artifacts and related metadata.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess end-to-end data modeling lifecycle processes, including intake, design, review, governance, versioning, publication, change management, and release.
  • Evaluate tooling and integrations such as data modeling tools, metadata catalogs, version control, CI/CD, and work management systems.
  • Identify gaps, risks, bottlenecks, and control weaknesses, documenting findings and prioritized recommendations.
  • Review alignment to enterprise standards like naming conventions, modeling patterns, and domain boundaries.
  • Create and execute manual test plans and test cases for key workflows, including model creation, standards validation, and deployment readiness.
  • Document test evidence, defects, and remediation recommendations, and support triage and retesting.
  • Define a testing strategy for data modeling transformation outcomes, focusing on quality, governance, and velocity.
  • Identify automation candidates and recommend an automation approach and integration points.
Required Qualifications

Experience: 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, data modeling, QA, or related roles with a strong testing focus. Demonstrated experience testing data, metadata, and modeling workflows is required.

Technical Skills: The role requires experience setting up testing and automation. This includes heavy experience with data modeling, a strong understanding of logical data modeling, and advanced Excel skills with complex worksheets. Hands-on development experience with Java or Python, automation testing, AI/ML fluency, and SQL is necessary. The candidate must be able to understand business requirements, write and execute test cases, and analyze test results. Familiarity with all phases of testing, agile methodology, Hewlett Packard's ALM (Quality Center), Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Office is also required.

Knowledge: Strong knowledge of data modeling concepts such as entities, relationships, keys, normalization, and dimensional versus relational patterns is required. The candidate must have proven ability to develop test plans and execute structured manual testing with clear documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, SAP PowerDesigner, Sparx EA).
  • Familiarity with metadata, catalog, or governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Microsoft Purview).
  • Experience with CI/CD and automation tooling (e.g., GitHub/GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and scripting, preferably with Python.
  • Experience implementing automated quality checks, such as rules engines or schema validation.
  • Familiarity with common enterprise data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Industry knowledge and familiarity with data used in the mortgage industry.
Key Competencies
  • Process analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Manual testing discipline and defect management.
  • Test strategy development and automation planning.
  • Data governance and standards enforcement.
  • Stakeholder management across architecture, engineering, governance, and delivery teams.
