Overview

The Systems Engineer 2 will participate in the implementation, automation, and support of physical and virtual infrastructure systems and solutions for Yale University Library. The Systems Engineer 2 will have responsibility for critical services and storage in a 24/7/365 on-call production environment. The successful candidate for the Systems Engineer 2 will have demonstrated experience with the following technologies:

1.UNIX/Linux operating systems and utilities, tools and applications used to deploy, configure, document, secure, and maintain systems and applications.

2.At least two of the following: automated build and deployment, automated configuration management, enterprise monitoring systems, containers, and/or Java application servers.

3.Amazon Web Services(AWS) in a production environment.

4.Scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, Bash

This position works closely and collaboratively with a wide range of staff in Library IT, stakeholders across the Library, Yale Information Technology Services, as well as with external partners and vendors. The Systems Engineer 2 is a member of the Yale University Library IT department, reporting to the Associate Director of DevOps and Infrastructure.

Required Skills and Abilities
1. General understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and data structures

2. General understanding of software engineering best practices

3. Developed analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills

4. Developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills

5. Familiarity with systems analysis methods and techniques

Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Experience with ITIL or similar IT process management frameworks.

2. Experience and understanding of development tools - (e.g. git, Jenkins, etc...)

3. Experience working with enterprise monitoring solutions (e.g. AWS Cloudwatch, Dynatrace, NewRelic, etc..)
4. Experience with application and infrastructure automation - (e.g. Terraform, Ansible(Tower, AAP), etc...)

Principal Responsibilities

1. Assist with the build, configuration, and documentation of IT infrastructure.
1. Maintain and support IT infrastructure, ensuring adherence to standards and service level objectives.
1. Monitor and troubleshoot IT infrastructure.
Analyze and report on performance metrics.
1. Implement and support robust and secure IT solutions.
1. Serve as a technical liaison; support & collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
1. Contribute to development & implementation of best practices.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience or equivalent education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

General understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and data structures.

General understanding of software engineering best practices.

Developed analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills.

Developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
