Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced
Senior Fiber Splicer / High-Density Data Center Technician for a
2-month contract assignment supporting a large-scale data center fiber infrastructure build in
Ashburn, VA. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in
mass fusion splicing, MPO systems, and ultra-high-count fiber backbones.
This position is intended for
seasoned splicing professionals with proven data center experience-not general fiber technicians.
Key Responsibilities- Perform mass fusion fiber splicing, including:
- Ribbonization
- 12-16 strand fusion splicing
- High-count fiber builds (864f and 6,912f)
- Build and prepare PDRs with LIUs
- Ribbonize and prep fiber, converting base-12 to base-8
- Splice trunks to MPO-8 pigtails
- Route and land large-count fiber trunks through pathways to AFL splice frames
- Execute fiber backbone and distribution builds across three floors
- Pull, route, and manage 6,912-fiber trunks through structured pathways
- Install and prepare:
- Rittal 45U racks
- Corning 4U enclosures
- Perform cable tray installations
- Pull fiber through MaxCell pathway systems, maintaining proper bend radius and tension
- Perform MPO inspection, testing, and troubleshooting using:
- MPO scopes
- EXFO and Fujikura test equipment
- Perform end-to-end testing using Oracle / TIA methodologies
- Label, document, and produce as-built fiber documentation
- Bond and ground all racks, frames, trays, and associated infrastructure
- Serve in a lead role, overseeing two technicians (one per shift) and managing shift handoffs
Required Experience & Qualifications- Strong, verifiable experience in mass fusion fiber splicing
- Extensive experience with:
- Ribbon fiber (12-16 count)
- High-density MPO-8 systems
- Large-count fiber backbones (4,000f+)
- Proven data center experience
- Hands-on experience with EXFO and Fujikura splicing and testing equipment
- Strong understanding of:
- MPO polarity and inspection standards
- OTDR, Tier 1 and Tier 2 testing
- Structured cabling and fiber routing best practices
- Experience with:
- PDRs, LIUs, splice frames, pigtails
- Cable tray and structured pathway systems
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment
- Strong attention to detail in labeling, testing, and documentation
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience leading teams or acting as a lead splicer on data center builds
- Experience on large-scale hyperscale or colocation data center projects
- Vendor training or certifications (Fujikura, EXFO, AFL, Corning preferred)
- OSHA or site-specific safety training

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
