Senior Optical Product Development Engineer


Location: Newington, NH | Salary: $160,000 | Direct Hire

Join a global leader in subsea fiber optic technology that powers over 50% of the world's undersea internet infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced R&D Product Development Engineer to design, prototype, and qualify advanced electro-optic and fiber optic communication systems used in high-reliability subsea networks.

This role focuses on end-to-end product development of optical amplifiers, terminal equipment, and advanced fiber optic modules, with direct responsibility for transitioning innovations from R&D into manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and prototype electro-optic modules and optical amplifier systems

  • Participate in product requirements, architecture, and design reviews

  • Simulate optical performance using modeling and analysis tools

  • Select, evaluate, and qualify fiber optic components and supplier solutions

  • Develop and execute design verification and environmental qualification testing

  • Analyze and present test data to validate system performance and reliability

  • Create manufacturing test plans and support technology transfer to production

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and field teams throughout product lifecycle

  • Ensure adherence to engineering standards, quality systems, and reliability requirements


Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or related field required

  • 8+ years of optical or electro-optic design experience (10+ preferred)

  • Strong expertise in fiber optics, optical amplifiers, and communication systems

  • Experience with EDFAs, photonics, and optical component integration

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with prototyping and fiber optic assembly

  • Knowledge of optical test methods, including OTDR and system-level validation

  • Experience transferring designs from R&D into manufacturing environments

  • Strong analytical, documentation, and data interpretation skills

  • Excellent communication and technical presentation abilities
