Job DetailsA growing regional electrical utilities contractor is seeking a proactive and field-driven Safety Coordinator to support large transmission, distribution, substation, and utility infrastructure projects. This role will partner closely with field operations and leadership teams to promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with OSHA and client requirements, and help drive continuous improvement across all job sites.
The Safety Coordinator will spend significant time in the field conducting site visits, coaching crews, facilitating training, and supporting incident prevention initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, audits, and observations on active utility construction projects
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and utility client safety standards
Partner with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to promote safe work practices and proactive hazard identification
Assist with development and implementation of site-specific safety plans, JHAs, and pre-task planning activities
Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing field safety training
Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking
Monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance and compliance
Support DOT compliance, equipment inspections, PPE programs, and fleet safety initiatives
Maintain safety documentation, reports, training records, and compliance logs
Participate in client safety meetings, audits, and project walkdowns
Help drive behavioral-based safety initiatives and continuous improvement programs
Provide field coaching and mentorship to crews regarding safe utility construction practices
Qualifications
5+ years of safety experience within electrical utilities, construction, industrial, or infrastructure environments
Knowledge of OSHA standards and utility construction safety practices
Experience supporting transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, or heavy civil projects preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence field teams and operations leadership
Ability to identify hazards and implement practical corrective actions in fast-paced field environments
Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital safety reporting systems
Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills
Ability to travel regionally to project sites
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain
CPR/First Aid certification preferred
CHST, CUSP, CSP, or related safety certification preferred
Experience working for an electrical contractor, utility contractor, or EPC firm
Knowledge of energized work practices, switching procedures, and utility client safety requirements
