Job Description:
Title: User Experience Designer
Location: Onsite in New York, NY
Duration: 6 month contract
Pay: $70-$78/hour
Overview:
This team is looking for a researcher to help drive cultural and innovation research work streams. Our team's work helps our design and product partners situate emerging technologies within a deep understanding of enduring and emerging human needs, cultural trends, and broader systems (e.g., STEEP analysis). We identify the shifts and needs that will shape the future relationships people will have with technologies in the next 3-5 years and the opportunities for device and service innovation within them.
Responsibilities:
Analyze primary qualitative and quantitative research data and translate findings into clear, compelling insights, recommendations, and strategic frameworks.
Create visually engaging and persuasive presentations using Figma, visual design tools, and AI-enabled platforms.
Socialize research findings and drive organizational impact through presentations, workshops, working sessions, and creative research artifacts.
Develop materials such as:
o Speculative concepts
o Design briefs
o Strategic frameworks
o Future scenarios
Partner with product and design teams to translate long-term insights into near-term product opportunities and experiences.
Collaborate with research partners to leverage existing knowledge and identify opportunities to expand research initiatives into future exploration areas and roadmap development.
Basic Qualifications:
7+ years of research experience with a strong focus on early-stage, generative design research that informs long-term business strategy.
Experience conducting research within digital products, services, innovation, or emerging technology environments.
Demonstrated ability to translate research insights into:
o Design principles
o Strategic frameworks
o Future scenarios
o Design provocations
o Immersion workshops
Strong understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
Deep expertise in:
o Ethnographic research
o Semiotic research
o Co-design methodologies
o Design research methods
Ability and willingness to travel internationally to conduct in-context, in-person research in settings such as homes, workplaces, or offices.
Portfolio demonstrating how research informed strategic decision-making, innovation initiatives, and future-focused business opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences and organizational levels.
Strong design acumen with experience using AI and design tools to develop:
o Figma-based presentations
o Trend reports
o Research storytelling assets
o Activation materials
o Scenario-based deliverables
o Design prompt cards
Experience researching and evaluating emerging technologies, including:
o Artificial Intelligence (AI)
o Extended Reality (XR)
Knowledge of multimodal device interactions, including:
o Touch interfaces
o Voice interfaces
o Mediated control experiences
