Job DescriptionYou'll shape the future of Oracle Cloud and AI infrastructure, taking ownership from rack-level architecture through board-level design, integrating the latest silicon (compute, GPU, storage, networking), and driving excellence across all levels of the product stack. This is a highly collaborative and technically demanding role where you'll be leading from initial concept and requirements through prototype design, hands-on lab bring-up, debug, validation, and transition to full mass production. As many of these responsibilities require direct access to our state-of-the-art hardware labs and real-time, in-person engagement with cross-functional teams, the position is based on-site in our Burlington, MA engineering campus.
ResponsibilitiesDetailed Responsibilities - Provide technical leadership for multidisciplinary teams (Electrical, Mechanical, FPGA, Firmware/BIOS, Compliance, and Operations engineering) throughout all phases of system hardware development, from initial concept to volume production.
- Architect and own server system designs from rack-level to PCB and interconnect, delivering scalable, reliable, and high-performance infrastructure solutions for Oracle's data centers.
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional design, bring-up, and debug meetings, maintaining alignment across all stakeholders and driving timely decision-making.
- Collaborate with project managers and executive leadership to develop project plans, defining engineering milestones, prototype bring-up, validation schedules, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Author and maintain system-level hardware specifications, upper-level block diagrams, product concept documents, and configuration guides.
- Review, analyze, and guide detailed board architecture, floor planning, constraint-driven design, schematic capture, and PCB layout, ensuring best practices for high-speed, high-density server platforms.
- Drive and participate in formal design and technical reviews, setting technical direction and ensuring all product requirements, quality, and compliance targets are met.
- Lead the design, analysis, modeling, and testing of system prototypes, validating that all performance, cost, and manufacturability objectives are achieved for large-scale cloud deployment.
- Develop and implement hardware validation and test strategies; oversee thorough root-cause analysis and debug at system and board levels.
- Collaborate with firmware/software teams to enable system-level diagnostics and maximum platform reliability.
- Manage interactions with internal and external partners, including vendors, operations, and supply chain teams to assure component qualification, cost, and production readiness.
- Mentor and support engineers at all levels, share knowledge across teams, foster a culture of technical excellence, and contribute to talent development.
- Stay abreast of industry trends in system/server architecture, cloud hardware, AI platforms, and emerging technologies, driving thought leadership and innovation.
Success in this role depends on building strong relationships and collaborating on a daily basis with hardware engineers, signal and power integrity engineers, firmware and software developers, CAD and mechanical designers, operations and manufacturing partners, and stakeholders from product management, quality, compliance, and data center operations. Your presence onsite helps ensure real-time teamwork, effective problem-solving, and the alignment required to keep our cutting-edge platforms on schedule and at the highest quality.
Skills and Experience Required:- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent; MS or PhD preferred
- 10+ years (BS), 7+years (MS or beyond) relevant experience in system-level engineering for large-scale server, storage, or compute platforms, including technical leadership.
- Direct, hands-on experience with:
- System and board-level architecture, from rack to PCB and interconnect
- Technical leadership of hardware development teams (EE, ME, FW, etc.)
- Full product lifecycle, from requirements, concept, and design through validation, deployment, and sustaining engineering
- High-speed signal and power integrity, constraint-driven PCB design, and stackup for modern data center platforms
- Modern CAD tools (Cadence, Concept, Allegro) and collaborative design review processes
- Designing with high-performance CPUs (Intel/AMD/ARM), GPUs (NVIDIA/AMD), DDR memory, PCIe interfaces, storage, and networking
- Board bring-up, debug, failure/root cause analysis, and prototype validation for cloud-scale systems
- Authoring detailed system specifications, guides, and configuration documentation
- Driving cross-functional teams and reporting to executive leadership
- Excellent technical leadership, team collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills
Preferred:
- Recent experience leading multidisciplinary teams delivering advanced data center servers and/or storage or GPU subsystems.
- Experience with Intel/AMD/Nvidia silicon, PCIe Gen5/6, DDR5/6, NVLINK, or next-generation interconnects.
- Knowledge of digital and/or analog simulation, modeling of power delivery, or FPGA design (Verilog).
- Proven experience with cloud or hyperscale data center product development and deployment.
- Familiarity with global regulatory compliance and certification processes (safety, EMC, etc.).
- Knowledge of software architecture, diagnostics, or system-level firmware is a plus.
