Position Overview
The SAP PCM/EHS Technical Resource is responsible for the technical design, development, customization, and system integration of the SAP Product Compliance and Chemical Management (PCCM) and Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) modules, with a primary focus on Product Compliance Management (PCM).
In this role, you will develop and maintain the technical architecture that supports chemical safety, substance volume tracking, dangerous goods management, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring. You will write custom ABAP code, implement system enhancements, and build integrations that connect compliance data with core business processes in SAP S/4HANA (such as Sales, Procurement, and Manufacturing) to ensure automated compliance checks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Development & Customization in PCM
Develop and maintain custom ABAP objects, classes, and reports within the SAP EHS Product Compliance and PCM environments.
Implement technical enhancements using the BOPF (Business Object Processing Framework), which is the core technical architecture for modern SAP Product Compliance in S/4HANA.
Configure and customize the EHS Substance Database (Specification Database), including property trees, phrase libraries, and inheritance templates.
Develop and customize user interfaces using SAP Fiori/UI5, Web Dynpro ABAP, and Floorplan Manager (FPM) to optimize the user experience for compliance managers.
2. Integration & Compliance Automation
Design, build, and support the technical integration of PCM with core ERP modules (e.g., blocking sales orders or deliveries if product compliance or dangerous goods checks fail).
Implement and maintain automated Substance Volume Tracking (SVT) workflows to monitor chemical import/export limits against regulatory thresholds.
Develop and support interfaces (OData services, APIs, IDocs) connecting SAP EHS to external regulatory databases, chemical registries, or third-party SDS authoring platforms.
3. Technical Design & Architecture
Translate complex functional compliance requirements into detailed Technical Specification Documents (TSDs).
Collaborate with EHS Functional Analysts to design scalable, high-performing technical solutions that leverage SAP standard extension points (BAdIs, User Exits, and Enhancement Frameworks).
Ensure development adheres to SAP best practices, security guidelines, and performance standards, particularly when handling large volumes of chemical and substance data.
4. Testing, Troubleshooting, and Support
Perform unit testing, support system integration testing (SIT), and assist business users during user acceptance testing (UAT) for compliance workflows.
Provide tier-3 technical support to resolve complex production issues, debug system errors, and optimize performance for compliance checks and document generation (WWI - Windows Word Integration templates).
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience
Hands-on SAP ABAP development experience.
At least 2 years of dedicated technical experience in SAP EHS / Product Compliance, with deep expertise in Product Compliance Management (PCM) (Specification Management, Phrase Management, and Dangerous Goods).
Experience working with the BOPF (Business Object Processing Framework) within SAP S/4HANA Product Compliance.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Object-Oriented ABAP (OO-ABAP), BOPF, and Web Dynpro/FPM.
Experience with SAP S/4HANA technical architecture, including CDS Views, AMDP, and SAP Fiori/UI5.
Familiarity with EHS-specific technical tools, such as WWI (Windows Word Integration) for generation of Safety Data Sheets and labels.
Strong integration skills using OData Services (SAP Gateway), SAP Integration Suite (CPI), and Web Services.
Soft Skills
Excellent analytical and debugging skills to trace data and process flows across integrated modules.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with functional consultants, regulatory business teams, and external technical partners.
Ability to work in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience transitioning from SAP EHS (classic ECC) to SAP S/4HANA Product Compliance.
SAP Certified Development Associate - ABAP or SAP EHS.
Knowledge of SAP Recipe Development (RD) or PLM integration.
