Role Overview
We are seeking a specialized Technical Writer to join a high-performing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing technical manual content for advanced military radar systems. This role involves writing, rewriting, and developing content such as operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures to effectively communicate technical information to the end-user.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, rewrite, and develop technical manual content including operating procedures, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Oversee the development of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
- Conduct quality reviews of materials.
- Author and publish materials in electronic formats, including basic, interactive, and structured (HTML, XML, SGML).
- Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors to develop and deliver technical manuals.
- Research and compile information from program documents and engineering sources to develop manual outlines.
- Adhere to military specifications and standards for technical writing.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline or a related field; OR Military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, or network systems; OR proven mechanical aptitude demonstrated by job experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of technical writing experience with structured authoring applications like Arbortext or other XML authoring tools.
- Experience with Confluence/JIRA.
Technical Skills:- Proficiency with MS Office Products and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience tagging XML documents.
- Ability to comprehend military specifications (experience with MIL-STD-40051 is a plus).
Professional Attributes:- Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Must be a self-starter and an engaged team member.
- Must be willing and able to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates with an active DOD Secret Clearance are highly preferred for this position
- Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience with structured authoring applications, such as Arbortext and/or IADS viewer.
- Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
- Expert knowledge of standards such as XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D, and DITA for structured content.
