We're searching for a Senior Systems Engineer to join Aurora's Software Systems, Safety, and Test Engineering team. Systems, Safety, and Test Engineering is responsible for the engineering work to verify and validate Aurora's self-driving technology - an unsolved problem for the industry and one of the most difficult challenges in the history of systems engineering. The System Test team is responsible for supporting system-level autonomy development, verification, and validation by delivering decision-quality information via test and evaluation of the Aurora Driver.

In this role, you will
  • Work alongside leadership in developing strategies for testing the Aurora Driver
  • Leverage diverse testing methods including simulation, Hardware-In-Loop (HIL), track, and road testing in support of autonomy development and system verification and validation
  • Plan and execute tests, analyze results, and identify defects or anomalies in system behavior
  • Work closely with development teams to investigate root causes and drive resolution of issues
  • Provide frequent, simple, and clear written and verbal communication of complex ideas to external teams, peers, and stakeholders
  • Design, develop, execute, and train others in processes that embody test engineering best practice

Required Qualifications
  • BS degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant engineering field
  • 8+ years of highly relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience in test and evaluation of complex systems
  • Experience with test methods, tools, and frameworks
  • Ability to synthesize data into meaningful information to support decision making
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in testing high-risk and safety critical products
  • Application of engineering and/or operational risk assessment methodologies
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python, bash) with an emphasis around data management for test reports
  • Previous experience with autonomous systems (particularly automotive-based)
  • Proficiency in JAMA for requirements management and testing
  • Knowledge of automotive safety standards (e.g. ASPICE, ISO 26262, SOTIF) and familiarity with regulatory requirements or evaluation standards for autonomous vehicles (e.g. UL4600, Euro NCAP)
  • Prior experience with sophisticated, mission-critical hardware and/or software within a safety critical industry (e.g. aerospace, defense, medical, transportation)
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies, version control systems (e.g. Git and continuous integration (CI) pipelines

The base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $216,000 per Year. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.
