What you'll doViasat is looking for a dynamic Mechanical Engineer with satellite thermal analysis experience to join our growing team. In this exciting role, you will be responsible for both thermal analysis of the satellite and design, documentation, and testing of electronics hardware.
The day-to-dayThe day-to-day work encompasses building thermal models of satellites and providing thermal boundary conditions for payload units. You will also provide inputs for improving the thermal performance of the satellite.
To supplement the thermal analysis work, you will also design electronics packaging for space. This includes CAD modeling, drawing creation, thermal and structural analysis, and build and test support.
You will work directly with a diverse staff including engineering, program management, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality assurance to manage product development.
What you'll need- 8+ years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering and satellite level thermal design.
- Experience performing mechanical testing on packaged electronics such as shock, vibration, and thermal vacuum.
- Design experience creating 3D parts and assemblies using SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar tools.
- Electronic packaging for space environment experience.
- Experience in creating and analyzing models in thermal analysis software (Ansys, Thermal Desktop, or similar).
- Experience with thermal analysis using Ansys (electronics packaging), and Thermal Desktop or Simcenter SST (SV analysis).
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a similar relevant engineering degree.
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- Up to 10% domestic travel.

Salary range$114,000.00 - $180,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $141,500.00- $212,500.00/ annually
