Job Title:Sr. Learning Engineer

Summary:
The Senior Learning Engineer will serve as both a thought leader and hands-on expert in continuously improving the design, learning environment, and user experience of our learning initiatives, working across functions and with teams including course development, innovation, academic leadership, and technology teams. In addition, this role will identify, maintain, and support complex custom and third-party technologies within the client's learning ecosystem. A significant focus will be on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Large Language Models (LLM) to enhance the effectiveness and personalization of learning experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advise client leadership on emerging instructional technologies, including AI/ML/LLM applications, and andragogical approaches to support strategic initiatives related to readiness and workforce development.

Create and implement standards to ensure the seamless and intuitive integration of native, custom, and third-party technologies into course designs, ensuring compliance with the client's security protocols and Section 508 accessibility requirements.

Identify, evaluate, and integrate innovative learning technologies and third-party tools, including AI-powered solutions, to meet instructional goals and enhance learner experiences within the client environment.

Implement and support complex technologies, including AI-driven learning tools, within the client's learning ecosystem.

Conduct investigation and rapid mitigation of technical or instructional issues within the client's Learning Management System (LMS) and/or associated course room technologies.

Lead complex course projects using instructional design skills, technology expertise, and a deep understanding of the client's training environment.

Leverage instructional design skills to create use cases for tools and champion technological advancements in design, particularly related to AI-powered learning.

Build and maintain courses and learning resources within the client's LMS environment according to established style guides, best practices, and security protocols.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:

Apply engineering principles, learning science methodologies, and human-centered design practices to design, develop, and implement complex learning systems targeted at profession skills development, continuing education, and resource access (aligning with client's focus) . This includes online courses, simulations, virtual reality training, blended learning programs, and performance support tools.

Develop and maintain learning technology infrastructure, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), Learning Experience Platforms (LXP), digital libraries, and related resources.

Integrate AI-powered features into learning systems, such as personalized learning paths, intelligent tutoring systems, and automated feedback mechanisms.

Develop and implement strategies for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting learning data to identify areas for improvement and optimize learning outcomes with a specific focus on measuring the impact on readiness and job performance.

Build dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to learning and development, such as completion rates, knowledge retention, and demonstrated skills enhancements that contribute to readiness.

Research and evaluate emerging learning technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and augmented reality (AR), to identify opportunities for innovation in learning and development that support the vision of an Integrated Learning Continuum.

Integrate learning systems with other enterprise systems, such as electronic health records (EHRs), performance management systems, and talent management platforms, ensuring seamless access to learning resources and performance data.
Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. (Strong preference for degrees in Learning Engineering, Education and Instructional Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with a specialization in AI/ML/NLP).
Experience:
-
Preferred: Six years of experience working directly with an LMS (Blackboard/Canvas or similar) and instructional technologies.

Preferred: Six years of experience in instructional design and educational technology or related fields.

Preferred: 3-5 years of experience in data analytics, or a related field.

Experience working in a healthcare environment is highly desirable.

Experience working within the DoD or other government agencies, particularly within a healthcare training or education setting, is a significant plus.
Technical Skills:

Deep technical expertise in LMS and course room/instructional technologies, including experience with cloud-based learning platforms.

Significant experience working with and applying AI/ML/LLM technologies in educational settings, including developing and deploying AI-powered learning interventions.

Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theories.

Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

Experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or similar is a plus, not required.

Familiarity with cloud-based learning technologies and architectures.

Deep understanding of AI/ML algorithms and techniques, including natural language processing.

Experience with AI/ML platforms and tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
