As a
Principal Mechanical Engineer at Medtronic, you will play a crucial role in the lifecycle management of our
Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health released product portfolio.. You will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing performance, reliability, and quality of our products. This position requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with other engineering teams, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
Responsibilities: - Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis- Troubleshoot technical problems, determine, and execute resolution plans.
- Documentation and Change management - Create and maintain the documentation necessary to ensure the consistent manufacture of products - Generate Bills of Materials, executes change orders, write engineering reports, protocols, generate Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA's).
- Supplier Management - Interact with suppliers, participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) processes to access component and assembly manufacturability, perform tolerance analyses. Experience in Lean Six Sigma (DFSS) or Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM). Work with supply chain and component engineering on logistic plans, Mechanical End-of-Life (EOL) procedures and implementation of product changes including researching, verifying, and implementing the replacement of end-of-life components while sustaining current product design intents.
- Develop and perform engineering tests, measurements, and analysis - Force/deflection tests, weight scales; familiarity with inspection tools such as dial indicators, height gauges, Coordinate Measuring machines (CMM), gauge blocks/pins, accelerometers.
- Work with the Service team on service plans, supporting user manual updates and other related field actions
- Work with project core team members including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Operations and Marketing to ensure projects and activities are executed according to Medtronic processes. Ability to work, influence and lead in a matrix environment
- Mentoring- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment. Give directions to engineers and drafters, clearly communicate their roles and tasks
Must Have: Minimum Requirements:- Bachelors degree in a technically related field preference Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
- Or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
- OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience.
Nice to Have: - 4+ years of medical device engineering experience.
- 5+ years of Mechanical Design Engineering experience.
- 5+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Experience with medical capital equipment.
- Proficiency with Solidworks 3D Modeling Software and PLM, Agile product life cycle management, Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams
- Design skills include an understanding of drafting standards, design progression, GD&T in compliance with ASTM Y14.5 .
- Prior experience with Motion systems design including belt drives, ball screws, stepper motors, DC servo motors, pulley mechanisms, linkages, drive cables, gears, motors, linear and rotary bearings, sensor and complex electromechanical assemblies.
- Experience with Mechatronics.
- Mechanical Fabrication experience - knowledge of CNC machining/turning, Experience with covers (injection molding, rim, thermoform)
- Solid working knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical product development, including knowledge of federal and international regulations, such as FDA QSR, IEC 60601, ISO: 13485, 14971, 62304, and 13485, Medical Device Directive or other regulating agencies is required
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$131,200.00 - $196,800.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
