Job Title: Business Analyst
Location: Remote
Duration: 12+ Months
Job Summary:
The Business Systems Analyst / Scrum Master provides hands-on Agile leadership, ensuring the team has clear priorities, actionable requirements, and the support needed to deliver. This role leads requirements discovery and refinement, translates complex business needs into clear, testable user stories, and drives Agile planning and delivery for a cross-functional technology team. The individual represents the team in cross-functional planning, supports ROM estimating, and assists with releases, deployments, and critical incident response. Success requires big-picture thinking, strong adaptability to evolving technology, and practical understanding of AI/ML concepts to identify opportunities and improve delivery outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead stakeholder discovery sessions to define objectives, scope, success metrics, and requirements; translate needs into epics/features/user stories with clear acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements.
Own backlog health and readiness: prioritize work with stakeholders, manage scope, drive refinement, and ensure stories are actionable for engineering and test teams.
Serve as Scrum Master: facilitate Agile ceremonies, improve team throughput and predictability, remove blockers, and coach on Agile best practices.
In partnership with technical leads, plan and direct day-to-day work execution by ensuring user stories are ready, priorities are clear, and developers have sufficient ready work to remain productively engaged at or near capacity; identify blockers early and adjust sequencing to maintain delivery flow.
Represent the delivery team in cross-functional planning (dependencies, sequencing, risks, environment/release readiness) and communicate status, decisions, and tradeoffs.
Support ROM estimates by coordinating inputs from engineering/architecture, documenting assumptions, constraints, risks, and dependencies.
Partner with engineering, architecture, security, and operations to ensure solutions are feasible, supportable, and aligned with SDLC/DevSecOps expectations.
Support release and deployment activities (readiness coordination, cutover planning, validation steps, communications) and provide post-release follow-up/defect triage support.
Assist during critical incidents by coordinating information flow, tracking actions, documenting impact/timeline, and ensuring corrective actions are prioritized and completed.
Apply a big-picture mindset to continuously identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce delivery risk, and improve quality, performance, and operational readiness.
Identify and promote practical AI/ML and automation opportunities (where appropriate) to enhance analysis, planning, reporting, and delivery workflow efficiency.
Required Skills:
8+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Technical Product Owner/Analyst, Scrum Master, or similar hybrid role supporting technology delivery.
Strong ability to translate complex needs into high-quality Agile artifacts (epics/features/stories), including acceptance criteria, workflow/process mapping, edge cases, and non-functional requirements.
Proven Scrum Master capability: facilitation, conflict resolution, coaching, dependency management, and continuous improvement in team execution.
Strong systems-thinking and end-to-end mindset: able to assess upstream/downstream impacts, data flows, integrations, and operational support considerations.
Technical fluency with modern delivery practices and concepts (SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD concepts, environments, APIs/integrations, logging/monitoring); not required to be a developer but must communicate effectively with engineers.
Practical understanding of AI/ML (concepts, use cases, limitations/risks, governance considerations) and ability to apply it to identify IT possibilities and improve project management/delivery outcomes.
Experience with Agile lifecycle/work management tools (e.g., VersionOne, Jira, Azure DevOps or similar) and ticketing/ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow or equivalent).
Strong communication skills: able to write clearly, present to senior stakeholders, and lead cross-functional discussions to drive decisions and alignment.
Strong analytical and organizational skills: comfortable operating in ambiguity, managing competing priorities, and maintaining delivery discipline.
Proficiency with common productivity tools (Word/Excel/PowerPoint or equivalents) for executive-ready communication and planning artifacts.
Preferred
Scrum certification (e.g., CSM, PSM) and/or scaled Agile experience (e.g., SAFe).
Experience supporting production releases and incident response in high-availability environments.
Experience incorporating security, privacy, and performance requirements into delivery artifacts.
Additional Required Skills/Experience:
Minimum of 8 years experience, in technology or software development
A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is required. If the individual's degree is not in the applicable field then four additional years of related experience is required.
Typically performs all functional duties independently.
Note: Special credentials (licenses and/or certifications) may be required at the Task Order level on a case-specific basis.
