Splunk Linux Administrator

• Location: Anderson, SC (ITC - Clemson University)

• Work Arrangement: 100% Remote (Must reside in the Continental US)

• Interview Mode: 2 Rounds via Zoom

Core Responsibilities

• Splunk Administration (30%): Manage Splunk enterprise installations within a Linux cluster. Duties include creating indexes, updating applications, adding source types, monitoring license counts, and utilizing the Splunk Management Console.

• Linux Administration (35%): Implement application file permissions, configure/maintain NFS file systems, and utilize version control (Git, Bitbucket) and configuration management tools (SaltStack, Ansible).

• Architecture & Upgrades: Identify design deficiencies and implement architectural improvements; manage version upgrades for Splunk Enterprise and Universal Forwarders.

• Technical Advisory: Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assist Windows and Linux admins with Splunk UF client installations and advanced log searching techniques.

• Research & Development: Contribute to ongoing R&D projects and provide mentorship to less skilled systems programmers.

Technical Requirements

• Splunk Expertise: 5+ years of experience in Splunk Administration (Required).

• Linux Mastery: 5+ years of experience in Linux Administration (Required).

• Automation: 5+ years of experience with Bash Scripting (Required).

• Certification: Valid Splunk Certification is required.

• Citizenship: ship is required due to project constraints.

CUI & Security Compliance

As this role handles regulated research data, the successful candidate must adhere to strict Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) requirements:

• Work must be performed via a Secure VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure).

• Candidates must maintain a secure remote workspace (screens must not be visible to unapproved individuals).

• Compliance with the Technology Control Plan (TCP) and Export Control regulations is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) environment.

• Associates degree or equivalent professional work experience.
