Responsibilities: Responsibilities - Work full time onsite at DOT Headquarters in Washington, DC.
- Drive, standardize, and manage the Unified Configuration Management Database.
- Install, configure, and manage Microsoft SQL Server instances and tools including SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.
- Set up and maintain new databases, servers, and supporting infrastructure.
- Administer SQL Server clustering, Always On Availability Groups, replication, mirroring, and log shipping.
- Monitor and maintain database performance, integrity, availability, and security.
- Perform routine maintenance such as index optimization, statistics updates, and database consistency checks.
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations.
- Troubleshoot database errors, performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, and availability issues.
- Analyze SQL execution plans and optimize queries for performance and scalability.
- Monitor system performance using SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and Performance Monitor.
- Manage database users, roles, and permissions following least-privilege principles.
- Audit database activity and maintain logging and change tracking.
- Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, architecture, and changes.
- Generate reports on performance metrics, capacity utilization, growth trends, and usage statistics.
Experience Requirements: Experience Requirements - Hands-on experience working in Google Cloud Platform administering database workloads.
- Strong experience administering SQL Server and Oracle, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and maintenance.
- Proficiency with SQL Server clustering and Always On Availability Groups.
- Experience with on-premises to Azure database migrations.
- Experience managing SQL Server versions 2012 through 2022.
- Experience with Oracle RAC, Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN backups, and Oracle Data Guard, including RAC on Windows.
- Proficiency in Linux shell scripting.
- Experience supporting AWS database environments including RDS and EC2-based databases.
- Ability to troubleshoot performance issues, analyze execution plans, and optimize workloads.
- Experience implementing database security solutions including Transparent Data Encryption.
- Experience with SQL STIG and Oracle STIG compliance.
- Knowledge of AWS cloud concepts for DBA operations.
- Experience conducting disaster recovery testing and providing on-call production support.
- Experience supporting mission-critical 24x7 production environments (preferred).
- Experience deploying and managing SQL Server on VMware, Azure IaaS/PaaS, and on-premises platforms (preferred).
- Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database (preferred).
- Experience facilitating migrations, upgrades, backups, and restores (preferred).
- Hands-on experience administering SQL Server access and troubleshooting Always On issues (preferred).
- Experience with mirroring, log shipping, and transactional replication (preferred).
- Experience with proactive monitoring, automated health checks, index maintenance, and alerting (preferred).
- Experience configuring Database Mail, SQL job alerts, and SSRS (preferred).
- Experience installing Oracle software, applying quarterly patches, and authoring RCA documentation (preferred).
- Experience testing DR solutions and participating in DBA on-call rotation (preferred).
- Commitment to mandatory monthly database patching activities (preferred).
Education Requirements: Education Requirements - Oracle certification.
- Microsoft SQL Server certification.
- Google Cloud certification related to database administration (preferred).
- AWS certification related to database or cloud operations (preferred).
