The Microservices Technical Lead (SQL/.NET) supports the tolling modernization program by providing functional leadership, hands-on SQL and .NET engineering, and collaborative solution design. This individual partners closely with the PM/Scrum Master, veteran SME, and technical team to decompose the monolithic database into microservice-aligned schemas. The role includes SQL engineering, architecture participation, code reviews, documentation reviews, and strong cross-team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead collaborative technical design discussions for microservices, database restructuring, and API integration.
·Provide hands-on SQL engineering including schema modernization, stored procedures, views, indexing, and performance tuning.
·Support .NET API development as needed, including backend services and data access patterns.
·Guide senior engineering talent with strong, engaging technical leadership.
·Collaborate with the PM/Scrum Master to support project execution and decision-making.
·Work closely with the veteran SME for technical alignment and domain expertise.
·Build migration logic and data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
·Ensure SQL modernization aligns with microservice boundaries and audit timelines.
·Participate in code reviews and documentation reviews.
·Collaborate with .NET, SQL, BA, QA, DevOps, Cloud, and CAB teams for cohesive delivery.
·Support compliance requirements including PCI, retention rules, and secure data handling.
·Operate effectively within delivery workflows and agile components as needed.
Required Skills
·10+ years of overall IT experience.
·7+ years of SQL Server development experience.
·5+ years of .NET/C# backend development experience.
·3–5 years of technical lead experience guiding engineering teams.
·3+ years of modernization or migration project experience.
·3+ years of experience with Azure SQL on IaaS VM environments.
·3+ years of experience building ADF pipelines and supporting ETL workloads.
·3+ years of experience supporting delivery and agile teams.
Preferred Skills
·2+ years of experience in state government or transportation-related environments.
·2+ years working in regulated or audited environments.
·2+ years of exposure to microservices architecture concepts.
