Summary

Google Lookr Analytics Engineer/Developer

Location: Fully Remote

Security Clearance: [ship with Public trust / Secret / Top Secret -- Required]

We are looking for an experienced Looker Analytics Engineer to design, build, and maintain our enterprise Business Intelligence architecture. In this role, you will bridge the gap between raw data and business decision-making by developing scalable LookML models, crafting intuitive dashboards, and enforcing data governance standards across the organization.

The ideal candidate possesses deep hands-on expertise with LookML, advanced SQL, cloud data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift), and data modeling best practices.

Key Responsibilities

LookML Development & Data Modeling

  • Design, build, and optimize modular, scalable LookML models, views, explores, and dashboards.
  • Establish and manage a centralized semantic layer to maintain a single source of truth for business metrics across marketing, sales, product, and finance teams.
  • Implement advanced LookML patterns, including derived tables (persistent and native), liquid parameters, user attributes, and dynamic filtering.

Data Architecture & Analytics

  • Write complex, performant SQL queries and optimize underlying data model schemas in cloud data warehouses.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to design data pipelines (dbt/Airflow) that optimize data structures for Looker consumption.
  • Conduct performance tuning on Looker explores and queries to maintain fast dashboard load times and efficient database usage.

Governance, Security & Operations

  • Manage Looker system administration, including user roles, access controls, row-level security (PDTs/User Attributes), and Git version control integrations.
  • Establish best practices for LookML code review, CI/CD deployment workflows, and data testing/validation.
  • Audit and clean up unused dashboards, views, and explores to optimize system health.

Stakeholder Enablement

  • Translate complex business requirements into clear analytical tools, dashboards, and automated alerts/scheduled reports.
  • Empower self-service analytics by training non-technical business users on how to use Looker explores effectively.

Qualifications & Requirements

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of direct experience developing and administering Google Cloud Looker.
  • Expert proficiency in LookML (LookML views, explores, persistent derived tables, liquid syntax, and Git integration).
  • Strong SQL skills (complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and query performance optimization).
  • Solid understanding of data warehouse architectures (BigQuery, Snowflake, or Amazon Redshift) and dimensional data modeling (Kimball methodology, star/snowflake schemas).
  • Experience implementing version control (Git) for LookML development.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with dbt (data build tool) for upstream data transformations.
  • Looker Certified LookML Developer or Looker Certified Business Analyst certification.
  • Familiarity with Python for data scripting or API integrations (e.g., using the Looker API/SDKs).
  • Experience with conversational analytics or Looker AI integrations (Looker Skills / GenAI endpoints).

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business leadership.
  • High attention to detail regarding data accuracy and consistency.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a passion for building scalable, well-documented analytics tools.
