Systems Administrator (Mid-Level)
Position Summary
The Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting the daily operations, monitoring, and core infrastructure maintenance of our enterprise IT environment. In this role, you will take ownership of daily server operations and system monitoring to ensure environment stability, reliability, and security.
This position requires a self-motivated professional capable of managing a robust workload across Windows and Linux environments, virtualization platforms, cloud services, and identity management. You will collaborate closely with Network, Security, and Service Desk teams to maintain a stable, secure, and performant environment.
Employment Type: 6-Month Contract (with potential to extend or convert)
Location: Eden Prairie, MN (Hybrid: 2–3 days onsite per week)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- System Monitoring: Proactively monitor infrastructure health, performance, and availability using enterprise tools; manage threshold-based alerts and rapidly resolve or escalate critical issues.
- Infrastructure Administration: Maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows Server and Linux), managing account provisioning, permissions, patching, and log reviews.
- Tier-2 Escalations: Provide intermediate-to-advanced troubleshooting support for incidents escalated from the Service Desk, resolving complex issues and documenting root causes.
- Maintenance & Patching: Plan and execute scheduled maintenance windows, including OS patching, firmware updates, and routine system reboots.
- Backup & Recovery: Support and verify backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and executing restore requests.
- Identity & Cloud Services: Administer Active Directory, Group Policy (GPOs), DNS, DHCP, and handle cloud infrastructure tasks across Azure/Entra ID and Microsoft 365.
- Queue Management: Manage assigned tasks and incidents within the enterprise ticketing platform, ensuring strict compliance with operational SLAs.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical production incidents.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor''s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 2 to 4+ years of hands-on experience in a dedicated Systems Administrator or high-level Technical Support role.
- Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or RHCSA) are a strong plus.
Technical Skills
- Operating Systems: Solid, hands-on knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
- Core Infrastructure: Strong experience managing Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and foundational networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls).
- Scripting: Practical scripting ability using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate administrative tasks.
- Cloud Platforms: Proficient with Microsoft 365, Azure AD/Entra ID, and mobile device management (Intune).
- Virtualization & Monitoring: Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere or Hyper-V) and monitoring frameworks (PRTG, SolarWinds, Datadog, or New Relic).
- Ticketing & Frameworks: Experience utilizing enterprise ticketing systems (ServiceNow or Jira) under an ITIL/change management framework.
