Job Overview:
The Rental Billing department is responsible for maintaining and managing the billing and invoicing software that produces outputs for customers globally. This includes managing interfaces with internal applications and delivering electronic data to external organizations and customers. This is an exciting time to join the billing team as it continues to expand globally and increase its footprint across both on-prem and cloud-based database platforms. As an Engineer 2, Database Administrator (DBA) in the Rental Billing area, you will support several application development teams across multiple departments as part of the platform and infrastructure team. You will work with various internal software products, including Rental Financial Systems, Bill Delivery, Foreign Rental Billing, COMPS, and Account Maintenance. These products support accounting, invoicing, processing, and calculations for the company and global customers. This role offers opportunities to develop relationships with contributors from development teams, customers, and sponsors of the products, while championing teamwork and focusing on operational efficiency, reliability, and proactive issue identification.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement approved DDL and DML changes in both production and non-production environments.
  • Commit and manage database scripts in Bitbucket and pull approved changes for deployment in support of release and change management processes.
  • Review and approve application-driven database changes to ensure compliance with performance, security, operational, and recoverability standards.
  • Review SQL from application teams for correctness, efficiency, and safety.
  • Develop and maintain a working understanding of application data models, including core tables, relationships, data flows, and schema usage to support troubleshooting and change review.
  • Monitor database health, performance, and capacity, and act on alerts.
  • Support application teams in troubleshooting database-related issues.
  • Assist with database patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Support backup, recovery, and restore validation activities.
  • Facilitate user access management and support data security practices, including PII awareness and customer data redaction requests.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation that includes light after-hours support.

Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to safeguard confidential and highly sensitive database content.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical issues clearly.
  • Strong teamwork, decision-making, documentation, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery technologies and processes relevant to Oracle/PostgreSQL.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must reside in the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii).
  • Must be able to work a schedule within U.S. Central Standard Time core business hours.
  • 3+ years of experience administering databases in a production environment, with strong expertise in Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working in both on-prem and cloud-based environments, or strong experience in one with demonstrated aptitude to support and learn the other.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write and read complex queries, review changes, and identify inefficient or incorrect scripts.
  • Experience supporting application development teams with troubleshooting, release coordination, and change review.
  • Experience with database user administration, access control, and least-privilege practices.
  • Experience with database monitoring, alerting, and basic performance analysis.
  • Experience using version control (such as Git or Bitbucket) for committing, reviewing, and pulling database changes as part of the deployment workflow.
  • Commitment to incorporating security into all decisions and daily job responsibilities.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud-managed database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, etc.), including backup, replication, and failover.
  • Experience with PL/SQL or PL/pgSQL stored procedures and functions.
  • Practical experience with Oracle tools such as OEM, RMAN, and Data Guard.
  • Experience working with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform for cloud configuration and support.
  • Experience working in a Unix command line environment and with scripting languages (Shell, Python, Perl, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and tools like JIRA and Confluence.
