Technical Value Management (TVM) Engineer - Powertrain Cost Reduction (Temporary)


Location: Dearborn, MI (Hybrid)


Pay: $42.31 per hour


Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time

We are seeking a Technical Value Management (TVM) Engineer to support cost-reduction and value engineering initiatives for internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrain systems. This position is ideal for an automotive engineer with experience in product optimization, cost analysis, project management, and cross-functional engineering collaboration.

In this role, you will identify, evaluate, and implement engineering solutions that improve product value while reducing manufacturing and component costs. You'll work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and program stakeholders to deliver measurable savings and support strategic cost-reduction objectives.

Key Responsibilities


  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across powertrain systems.

  • Support value engineering (VAVE) and Technical Value Management (TVM) initiatives.

  • Develop business cases, cost analyses, and technical justifications for proposed changes.

  • Analyze engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and material cost data.

  • Coordinate activities across multiple engineering and vehicle programs.

  • Track project milestones, implementation timing, savings forecasts, and risk mitigation plans.

  • Lead cross-functional meetings and drive action item completion.

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and leadership updates on cost-saving initiatives.

  • Support financial validation and savings realization activities.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

  • 3+ years of automotive engineering experience.

  • Experience with cost reduction, value engineering, product optimization, or program management initiatives.

  • Strong data analysis, reporting, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Knowledge of ICE powertrain systems, including engines, fuel systems, exhaust systems, turbochargers, thermal management, air induction, emissions, or ignition systems.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project coordination skills.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Automotive OEM experience.

  • Experience with VAVE/TVM methodologies.

  • Familiarity with Power BI, Teamcenter, PLM systems, and AI-enabled analytics tools.
