As the product expert within the team environment, the incumbent provides technical product leadership to new and existing products. At times, it may be necessary for the incumbent to devise new and creative approaches to solve problems, to design new products, to utilize new materials, and to make cost reductions. The incumbent is expected to be able to resolve problems and overcome obstacles with the help of team support.

A continuing awareness of existing technology within the incumbent's area of specialty must be maintained through exposure to professional journals, attendance at trade shows, and formal course work.
